OMG! It's bad enough that he doesen't have a title. What did he do? Find this in the woods or something? Looks pretty much rust-free, though:
New Hampshire is another state that dose not issue titles on older cars, if I lost the title on my 98 Chevy truck I could not get a new title for it.
I've really been wanting one of these. They're pretty hard to find. If it were closer, I'd be all over it.
Does that mean you'd have to take residency in a state which issues titles, in order to get one for it?
Well, what I meant was moving the vehicle to another state where titles are available, like say, neighboring Vermont or Connecticut, rent a room or register with people you know there, to get temporary residency on paper. Then, apply for a title from there. In fact, you might not even need to move the car, since nobody in authority should want to see it, in that state from which you would be submitting the application.
^^^I'm doing this currently with my '79 Cougar. It didn't come with a title, only a bill of sale. And GA will not issue me a title. So, I'm "selling" it to a friend of mine in TN, who will issue him a TN title. Then, he is going to "sell" the car back to me with the TN title.
I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that if the Cougar came from a state that doesn't issue titles (or doesn't issue titles for vehicles that age), then GA should have to accept the bill of sale -- if under the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution, if not under a GA law. Now, if the Cougar is from a state that does issue titles, and you simply didn't get one from the seller, that's a different matter. The surround rails will probably not be easy to get. If there's not too much rust and the price is right, it would be worth it, though. Posting's deleted, however, so I assume it's sold.
Sounds like it used to be a pleasant state for Amish people, unless horses and buggies were required to have titles.
I bought the car with a Bill of Sale only. GA is more than willing to register it with a Bill of Sale. However, they are not willing to issue me a title. But, I want a title for it, which is why I'm going through the hassle of selling it to my friend in TN, who is willing to issue him a title with a Bill of Sale only.
