i need to find out how to get glue off my 1970 Ford LTD Country Squier Wagon, i have pelled off the fake wood, now how do i get the glue off, when i sand it , it just like melts or smears , thank you Mac
If you're gonna repaint, use lacquer thinners or mineral spirits or varsol. If not, then you can use PolyStrippa (paint stripper - thick and juicy.) Wear surgical gloves and change often! It melts skin too! I'd have 2 pails of fresh water handy. One to rinse your wiping cloths, the other in case you get the stripper on your hands. Wipe off the residue with mineral spirits.
What Norm said:2_thumbs_up_-_anima...but if your useing L-Thinner, the water won't help, it will just wreck your rags.
Good point. The water is only if you're using the paint-stripper method, to remove it from the surface before it dries hard, AND your skin if it splashes on you, so that you remain handsome, intelligent, humble and don't use too many .
Mac, I've never actually used this stuff, but it may be another option. My body and paint man used the old fashion "scraping" method when he removed the woodgrain from my wagon. He used razor blades and lots of elbow grease. On the real stubborn areas he used a somewhat worn down sanding disc so he wouldn't completely gouge the panel or over heat it and warp it. Hope this helps and good luck on your project. Got any photos of the progress? http://www.levineautoparts.com/3mwoandstadr.html
I bought that stuff, and it took way too long, and expensive too. Probably great on a 10 year old car, but my Mexican wagon was so cooked that it was crazing the woodgrain. I should have read the label a few times.
other stuff that might work is that liquid lighter fluid, as in the stuff you put in zippo's good luck.
