these are highly desired in CA, especially if they came with the original registration back when. The in the 70's came blue and yellow plates then in the late 90's white plates. Now the CA DMV issues new black plates at a high cost but one can tell the difference between the original and the new ones. Its a collector's thing.
Ooohhhh. Thanks for elaborating. Furthest west I've been was San Antonio. Tennessee has had all different colors. I think 60-65 were black. My favorites are from the 20's maybe? Green plate in the shape of Tennessee. White letters. I'd like to see California try that!!!
if the State debts keep piling up as they do with crazy environmental stuff, they will one day offer a plate in CA shape at $1000 each, and you bet there'd be takers
Am I right that in CA the plates follow the car? That is, if a Californian bought the car, he could register the car with those plates? In MD, the plates follow the owner. If you sell or trade the car, you either transfer the plates to your new car or turn them in to Motor Vehicles. They don't go to the new owner of the car you sold/traded. I don't see any value to CA black plates outside CA.
Pretty sure the plates are authentic to the car. I remember the plates on my dad's '68 LTD (same dark green as this wagon) read WGZ 508
Yup. California license plates stay with the car when it gets sold, unless you want to keep a personalized one, and reassign it to another vehicle.
