This car had been sitting in an oil field down in Long Beach for about 10 years when I drug it home. I discovered the head gasket was blown (typical for these motors), so off the top-end came. The car appears to have 83,000.00 original miles on it and also appears to have a G.M. replacement "Target Motor" under the hood.

The car has recently had the following mechanical work completed to it:

Rebuilt heads ($1,900.00 just to have the heads rebuilt)
    New head gaskets
    New belts and hoses
    New glow plugs
New A/C set-up, including blower motor
    New radiator
    New water pump
    New wiper motor
    New tires
    New batteries

In a flurry of eBay purchases, I bought a set of stock wire hubcaps, all NOS badging and an original radio with 8-track player...among some other stuff. I replaced the "wood" paneling, I was told it was an "easy job"...and it wasn't...it's a very armature job and will need to be redone if you want it done right, but it looks good at 10+ feet.

The reason I am selling the car is because the motor has developed a "knock" or "tick" in the driver's side head. The car runs fine, my bet is it's a bent push-rod, but I'm not sure. My mechanic (who happens to be my brother) now refuses to work on the car and I can't find anyone else that will work on "the dreaded Olds 350 Diesel", so it pretty much has been just sitting in the driveway for the past three months other than a short drive to the little league field every now and then.

One of the fathers at the little league field offered me $5,000.00 for the car (in its current condition with the "tick" noise) on two separate occasions. I was not ready to sell at the times of his offers, little league is now over and I don't know who the guy is...but I figured I would list the car for what he offered.

I would consider a trade for a 1975 - 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood or Seville or a comparable Buick, Oldsmobile, or Chevy wagon (with a gas motor). Call John at (626) 695-5173 if you would like to take a look.

"My mechanic (who happens to be my brother) now refuses to work on the car"

I sense some sibling rivalry here.

A 6.2 Diesel conversion would have been a better choice; more horsepower and reliability. The car looks presentable though.

Or rather just plain good sense, considering the engine that's in there.

Let me guess. Are you, perhaps, Professor Timothy Leary?

    Things don't add up here......

    - "...appears to have 83,000 original miles." (Emphasis mine)
    - "......appears to have a GM replacement Target motor under the hood."
    - Cylinder heads recently rebuilt
    - Now has a 'knock' or 'tick' in the left side head.

Paraphrasing the words of Mr. Dylan, "There's something happening here, but I don't know what it is......."

Perhaps, one should seek the truth, through Professor Leary's methods?
