I'm a D.I.N.K. (Double-Income-No-Kids), but I was a kid (hard to believe, huh?), and my daddy wasn't a pistol. He could be an Son Of A Gun, or an SOB, at times, but he turned out to be my best friend.

Many great hours listening together to old radio sci-fi theater shows, chatting about the future back in the early 1950's, too many chores, but lots learned from his skills, his knack to know when to dig in or went to let go. Pop never fought graysuits or bureaucracy, but he'd stand up for the family.

Little side note. It was early 1948, Dad was back from WWII, but still enlisted as an Air gunner, and married since 1946. My mom's pregnant with yours truly, standing at the middle of the Duplessis bridge. Dad's walking to her from one end. Nice sunny day, still a bit of snow on the ground. The bridge starts to tremble. Pop runs like a white tornado (6 foot, 200 lbs, 22 years old, prime condition. Grabs mom and get's to the other side, yelling for people to get the f'k off. He got to safety and the thing came down. Big scandal in Quebec back then about road and bridge construction. I was that close to never happening. Proof positive that they both gave me life. For some reason, the mothers get all that glory. Dad did it for me, before I was born. Most fathers do, in less dramatic ways. (But don't you hate hearing "I told you so" as much as saying it.)

To you dads and those that were and those that will be :1st: :thumbs2::cheers:.

Enjoy being spoiled today, because Xmas is a long way off yet. Buy another wagon. :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Great story about your Dad and also amazing about the bridge.
As our world gets smaller in this age it amazes me what I'm learning from you guys. I thought Fathers Day was celebrated on the same day globally?? I now know otherwise!!!.

So to all Dads happy Fathers' Day:thumbs2:, even though it's strange doing it 3 months early:)

It's not a National statutory holiday, but it's vacation time, for most schools here, and so families have everyone home to celebrate it. It seems that society disagrees with most ex-wives that husbands and fathers are more than a necessary appendage. Luckily, so do their kids. :yahoo:

We celebrated last night - went to the races at Irwindale Speedway - 1/2 mile paved track. Small trucks, stockers, and "mini-stocks" - mostly Pintos. They had a parade of Studebakers to start the evening. The "International Studebaker Club" really could use some parts and help in the body & paint department........
