Grizz thanks, Thought you comment driving to the stores was a hoot, whenever I get into a project for the 1st time I swear must go back 3 / 4 times before I finally get squared away. here's what I am starting with, pretty good for 32 year old rims, can't really see it but there is this white corroded area on all the rims, perhaps where a wheel weight once was, scrape; sand; polish it off and the rim looks rough and ragged. rims are second on list - lower door rust is first thanks again
Dang it!!! Yours look pretty nice. If mine were that nice they might also be lower on the priority list. Looks good!
The wheels look great! The only thing I would suggest is getting some masking tape to cover the exposed aluminum pieces you don't want paint on, which will save you scraping the paint off after. When I repainted my buick ralleys, I found a roll of 1/4" masking tape which would be about perfect for the facing edge of the spline. Nice job!
Great way to save your wheels. If you want aftermarket wheels a set of Torq Thrush wheels look great, I seen a 4 door with a set on it and it looked fantastic
Soooo, I think five weeks later jobs done. Dmf. I believe your right. A proper tape would save lots of time. I think even better would be a template of sorts...with the pattern of the individual cavitiy for each spline, then just rotate and do each and every 500 splines one....by....one. My fingers are raw from sanding. Also a piece of soft wood rounded to fit inbetween the splines as a sanding blocks would make things easier. I think an airbrush gun of sorts would be necessary be completely even with the paint. All and all I'm happy. But I think I'll get another set of these wheels, and do them in black with metal flake. Take my time and do it right. The ol lady was breathing down my neck because I been driving her car this whole time I told her it would only be a weekend. I like what I done but if I had paid someone for this result I'd be MAD. I sort of rushed the last two. they look good but under a magnifying glass, which I happen to own, there's a few spots.
Wow, what wonderful job you did to your alu-rims! I think polished alu. looks much better than crome, because it`s a much warmer surface too look on. I hope I can send you photos of my motorcycles soon (to day only 42 Fahrenheit, late spring over here). Cheers Kim.
^^^thanks!! The only downside is now I spend 15 minutes dusting them off, making sure they're clean before I go anywhere!
