https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/5998184144.html You can pot a Chevy motor in a Ford, but not the other way around.
Now, having said that, I think a hot rod should get a drivetrain from the same maker: Ford gets a Ford drivetrain, Chevy gets a Chevy drivetrain, Dodge gets a Dodge drivetrain, etc. The only reason why hot rods get Chevy drivetrains no matter the marquee on the fender or grille, is because Chevy engines are cheap and plentiful, and there's a gazillion race parts available. Not because someone thinks the SBC is a better engine, but because they spend less dollars.
A good friend, car club member, and neighbor in Florida put a Ford flat head V-8 in a customized 1950 Chevy fastback sedan. He built the car and the engine. It also had power brakes, power steering, and AC. The more confusing part of this was he had two modified 350 Chevy engines in two different Chevelle's he also built. Darrel was a retired Chevy mechanic and was well known for his hot Chevy engines. When others asked "why Darrel?" He'd grin and say because I can! And that's what this hobby is really all about.
Personally all auto manufacturers have been around long enough they must be doing something right! Some hot rodders use what they are used to, others use what they have available, and still more like surprising others when they open the hood. I remember an old guy hooking an old Ox to his wagon after the horse died. He was still able to haul hay to Mr Lincoln. Not fast. But lots of torque and low end power.Never failed going to the end of the quarter mile down there in New Salem.
Well, at least we can use this as a example of what NOT to do to a '57 Chevy! Being a Chevy guy, this really doesn't bother me. To each his own and I just picture some guys drinking beer in a garage building this while saying "F them chevy guys! They put Chevy engines in every Ford ever made, so we'll put a Ford engine in a '57 Chevy!"
