Not Old school but a true wagon, cars just below the 100,000 mile make are price slightly below a sim to Roadmaster, nice alternative - good luck
The true gold for me would to find a 79-91 mercury colony park wagon. The odds of that are so rediculy slim
There is this 1991 Mercury Grand MarquisColony Park LS in Grand Rapids, MI. But it is so rare and nice I don't know if I could drop the $19,900 they want for it, and yes I said $19,900!!! http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...hRadius=0&makeCode1=MERC&modelCode1=MERCGRAND
Think about the additional cost and work of all this below after finding a decent wagon.............. Way cheaper to buy the $19,900 original and great looking Colony Park, get in, and drive home. I was debating if I should just buy a motor off of sumit that was mas produced like the Cadillac CTV's LSA (6.2L) - 556HP Supercharged Create Motor. Or would the Edelbrock be easier to get a ECU going on? What kind of automatic transmission should I have monster transmission build me and what Yukon Rear Axel upgrades should I do besides a posi limited slip? Unless you plan on mud boggin, off roading, pulling a house, and street racing, the 1991 sound like a great driver and cruise vehicle.
Well the driveline upgrades would be a future investment for those when I get a settlement from a hospital that dropped me on my ass. Till then I just want a nice Wagon. A Buick would be sweet but hard to find. I have even looked at Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable Estate Wagons.
Don't wait and depend on an insurance settlement. By then wagons may be extinct, cars will fly, and your hair will turn grey. Our daughter-in-law was riding a bicycle along a 4-lane city street when a Corvette driver pulled out from a stop sign, ran her over, causing many back and leg injuries. Years later she got enough to make the lawyers smile and for her to pay a few medical bills. There are lots of internet sales sites that may help. I know very little about the internet but bought a house a 1000+ miles away and a late model car from my computer chair. My youngest son in Florida has bought lots of cars, trucks, and tools thru things like Facebook, Craigs List, E-Bay, and more. He bought an 80's GM pickup needing an engine and tranny. Bought a 60E GM tranny for $100 and it was delivered to a nearby store parking lot. New gaskets, seals, etc. he has $150 total in it. Also your local U-Pull-It salvage yard may have just the running gear you need at slightly over scrap prices. Newer GM engines run forever so 100,000 is just broke in. Most cities have those small "Thrifty Nickle" type papers free in stores with bargains. Even back yards and side yards in many neighborhood have vehicles for sale by owner. Don't give up. There's a Buick in your future!
Late 80s and early 90s Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Wagons are definetly around, i looked at 2 this month already but they both wanted top dollar on cars that IMO didnt deserve it. Me and my buddy have had fun going to look at them and test driving them. Goodluck with your search and keep us updated. Put a Pace Performance LS3 525 HP motor with a Vette 6 Speed automatic with paddle shift system into it!
Here is the link, a non modified LS3 should suffice though. I have this 525hp in my Cobra and it rips. http://paceperformance.com/i-238364...-6-speed-auto-transmission-combo-package.html
Greg at Pace wants to sell me an engine! $16459.88--------- Plus tax --------- Of course add the cost of a decent station wagon, installation, wiring harness, etc. and it's way beyond the cost of a clean stock late model station wagon. Unless Alice has bottomless pockets, why? I also wonder why do some people test drive a vehicle when they plan on ripping out the drive train anyway? A blow engine means a better buy.
She asked and i answered. Obviously buying a wagon that has a bad motor and trans if you are going to put new ones in anyways is the way to go, it will bring the cost of the wagon down substantially. LS3 motors are a dime a dozen, she can find a wrecked Chevy and get the motor that way also. Plenty of ways to save on costs
Going the U-Pull-It route our son used an 80's GM rebuilt engine with 2-Holley 4's on a high rise and an electric GM overdrive tranny. The transmission came out of a truck with a blown engine so odds are the tranny is as good as it looked inside. Engine was newly rebuilt. Owner died before using it. Son used the brainbox and harness to make it all work with carbs and says he gets 15 MPG while burning rubber in most gears. Including the 83 to 85 Chevy truck he has under $2000 plus labor in it. Not something I'd want but for a redneck kid it's perfect. I'm trying to get him to do that with a station wagon. The Florida U-Pull-It has holiday half price specials and there's a lot of good junk in there.
