Even without the rust, it's worth half that in nice condition. And we can't even see the rest of it. What a moron.
I was all set to send a reply to the ad, indicating to the seller (in a nice way) that he was WAY overpricing his wagon. Do you think we should? I mean, legitimately, it's a $2,000 wagon, at best......
Living near that car, I doubt it has any floorboards left, if it runs and drives $2000 tops, I think $1000 to $1200
I wouldn't waste your time. He's probably the type that will get offended, and won't get it. Assuming he'll get it when he receives no calls on it. Agreed. If the rest of the body is just as rusted as that quarter, this thing is a parts car.
They don't call that region the rust belt (aka the salt belt) for nothing. Maybe he left out the decimal point (i.e., $100.00). Either that or $10K is his estimate for repairing the rust. I think I might be able to find someone who could do the body work for that price. That means I might be able to get away with putting into it as little as three times what it would actually be worth.
I'd think only if another one in significantly better shape sells this year. Maybe the seller put an extra 0 in by mistake, who knows.
I decided to send him something, since he seems to be clueless as to market values....... ........................................................................................... Not interested in purchasing your Mercury Montego station wagon, but since I know a bit about older station wagon pricing, I thought I would chime in. Considering its condition (rust), your wagon is grossly over-priced. Look at these examples from around the U.S.: '68 BIG Mercury https://redding.craigslist.org/ctd/5967588694.html '68 Montego with a 429 - $4,000 https://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/5971056609.html '69 Montego - $6,000 https://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/5971056609.html Custom-painted '68 Ford Torino - $9,500 https://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/5968621644.html ALL of these wagons have bodies that are in significantly better condition than yours. You need to be realistic with your pricing. I'd say your wagon is worth $1,000 to $2,000 at most. Sorry for the bad news.
