looks like a rack from a late seventies/early eighties GM wagon. It looks pretty similar to my 78 Buick Estate Wagon. No idea on value, you don't see many without the rack.
I agree. Probably not worth a whole lot, because you can find them fairly easy at any 'older' salvage yard.
It is a 1977-1990 GM box wagon rack. As noted, not hard to find cheaply. The hole in the center of the rear deflector is a give-away - on the original installation there is a spacer and bolt there that runs into the body. If the pot metal parts are not pitted, those will have some value. Also, if it has the rub strips on the roof, the rubber seals under those are also hard to find in good shape. When those strips shrink and crack, water runs in and stains the headliner or starts rust in the pillars.
I'm going for a Ford roof rack. Could be the angle of the dangle but it looks more like the one on my 72 Meteor rather than the one on my 87 Buick. But we all can agree it's a wagon rack, and agree that unless you find the rite person it may not fetch that much when it comes to value.
Strange, on my unrestored 78 Estate Wagon there is no spacer, nor is the evidence of any spacer attaching to the body at that location. The hole is also very clean showing no signs of any bolt marking it up. Did the spacer attach to the rack or the body? I see what you mean Tedy, the "angle of the dangle" looks more vertical on the left side, but the right side looks more correct.
Maybe that was a running change. Both my 84 Custom Cruiser and 86 Caprice wagon have that center bolt. The spacer simply fits between the body and the deflector and is held in place by the bolt going through it.
My Vote is Also for a 77-90 Full size GM Roof Rack. It even has the hole in the center of the Built in air deflector for the stand off bolt.
I believe we had a discussion some time back about that spacer. It was determined that it was missing on the first couple of years of the box wagons. My '81 has it.
This looks just like my 77 pontiac grand safari rack with the center deflector hole that gold color too looks very close to the factory color of mine as well wouldn't doubt that that pic is of a gm possibly a pontiac
My 77 gm came with the rack but was not installed just plugs in the roof. I will be reinstalling it soon I have the new rubber threaded plugs for all the pickup holes in roof but missing the one and the spacer for the stand off in the back. Also no screws for it. The gaskets are also missing but I just bought some 1/16" sheet gasket material and will cut new ones. Question is what length screws to use to install? They need to be long enough to grab and squeeze the plug tight into the hole but not too long to hit roof liner. Diameter and thread type is easy as I can match that to the plug threads. The gm mechanic repair manual i have shows the install instructions but doesn't call out hardware type.
