    For that price he sure wants it gone! I wonder if it just needs a topping up of the transmission fluid. 86,000 miles is not that many for transmissions to be failing.

    80k miles and need for a new transmission on these 1986, '87, '88, and '89 FoMoCo products are almost a pre-requisite. I had a brand new 1988 Town Car and the transmission died at 82k. I knew several other people who had the same trouble and I have this same wagon in this post right now. (See my profile pic). The original owner replaced the transmission in it at 86k miles and now at 132k... the transmission "spins" before clicking into OD. Local transmission guy confirms it's going to need to be replaced for $1200 to $1400. I have plans to post it on here for about the same price so if anyone reading this is near Richmond, va.. message me.
