Does anyone know how to get a rear gate window down in a 60 kingwood wagon? I have taken the back panel off, removed the sash bolts from the window and it still is stuck up. It just stopped working one day when my sister was driving the car and she cannot relive exactly what happen. I do not have anything as far as power at the switch in the dash key on or off.. Is there something I am missing. Sorry for the first post to be a help me. I am almost to the point of just breaking the window. There is no key thing in the gate as this was the way I bought the car. No rear inside switch either. I just need to get the gate open so I can fix everything this time. Thanks for any and all help.. It sounds like it's electrically-driven, right? Can you access the motor bolts, unbolt it? Even if you can only loosen it, as long as the gearbox's pinion teeth clear the sector gear on the regulator, you only have to move the window and regulator against the regulator spring.
I pulled both bolts that I can see from the motor.. I don't know how it comes out so I don't know if there is something else.
Usually, they have three, in a triangle, and there could be a brace at the back of the motor, but I'm sure there's a third bolt holding the gearbox end to the regulator.
I will check that today... I am 6'1 and 230lb so it is hard trying to get in the back and down enough to see.. It is time to close my eyes and just feel around. lol
I know what you're going through because I'm 6'6" and had to do exactly the same thing to my '89 full sized Bronco, and on a hot afternoon to boot! Once the motor was undone, I found that the regulator was frozen! Luckily, unlike other Fords, the glass was bolted instead of riveted; I undid the glass from the arms, slid the glass into the tailgate, which released the latch finally, and got it open!
If you've got no power to the motor, it isn't going anywhere. There are 3 bolts in a GM power window motor. 2 near the casing of the motor and 1 more on the far end of the gear assembly. Like another member said, if you undo those bolts, you should be able to just slide the window down. I recently had this happen in my 72 Vista. Also.. a word of advice, if you have to get a new motor, you will most likely end up having to shave the mounting studs in order for the motor to fit snugly against the regulator. You must cut them EXACTLY or you will have constant problems with it. I know this from experience. By the way, that's exactly what happened with mine. It just stopped working one day. No warning.
DON'T SMASH IT. You know...a time ago I had to get into a tight spot to get serial number off our Venmar. I couldn't fit so I used my camera/phone to reach in and take a picture so I could then get the number. Might work? Anyway welcome aboard and good luck with the window.
That's a similar layout to the motor and regulator in my Bronco's tailgate. What I can't remember is if I had trouble getting the three bolts out or not. But once the pinion gear is loose enough, the window will slide down.
Looks like the 3 holes and slotted hole are what hold regulator on. The 3 triangle holes I am pretty sure hold the outside switch/bezel on to the outside of the tailgate. You have to line the 3 holes up with the holes in the regulator gears to get to the bolts on the outer sheetmetal door skin. I think the 4 is what he may be after. But removing the lower bolts on the window frame should allow the window to drop. There are probably 2 bolts on each roller guide bolted to the lower window frame. Thats how my 61 is and thats what it looks like on this 60 also.
