in the affects of methanol on fuel hose. 2 year old high pressure fuel injection hose and it softened enough to slide off the pump stopping fuel pressure and causing a no start condition

I'd blame it on the mechanic. No way modern high pressure hose will go bad so quickly. That stuff was made in China under strict conditions. :2cents::stirthepot:

Definitely the mechanic. You can't beat that Chinese quality!

Hate to say it but I'm half guilty as I installed it but it was part of the aftermarket kit I bought

What pressure does your system see?

We've met him so I know he has issues. :stirthepot:I can't see Chinese hoses going bad in two short years. It's gotta be an installation error. Sometimes caused by pedal to the medal driving and hard braking. :49:

Not to be a wise arse, but what are you doing with methanol in your gas tank? Or did you mean to say ethanol.

yes you are correct old fox i meant ethanol. That hose probably doesn't have 2000 miles on it between the car being in the bodyshop and everything else that has gone wrong with it lately

methanol , ethanol or maybe too much alcohol!.:drink::wine::beerchug:

Probably the sitting with the fuel not moving speeded up the problem.

Yeah. If the hose is deteriorated, it would burst from the weakest point, not 'slide' off the nipple. I'll be the first to raise my screwdriver- holding hand to say "I made a mistake in not properly tightening that hose/bolt/whatever else a car has that can loosen and come off," so it's not my intention to embarrass you in front of everybody, but I don't think the ethanol's to blame. Look at most factory EFI designs, and high-pressure connections have threaded unions instead of hose/nipple connections. Perhaps an aftermarket -AN Union with a crimped end would be better, if the F.A.S.T. unit has a removable nipple? Failing that, what about two hose clamps on the nipple?

Not exactly a fast ego system but the tank kit was from tanks a lot I might agree about it not being tight but the clamp was on tight and the rubber disintegrated which caused the clamp to become loose

Also hoses do tend to loosen up on the fittings over time, especially with little or no use. At least you weren't on one of your world tours when it happened.
Our son has been finding fairly new hoses that worked loose on his TBI truck engine. He also works on sport bikes and says many are having rubber hose problems.
My NY buddy with a diesel Dodge had the fuel fittings work loose this summer while sitting nearby. All he had to do was tighten a few hose clamps and the truck ran like new.

I've seen hoses deteriorate from a too-tight clamp, and I've seen hoses slip off chromed nipples no matter how tight one clamp was. That's why I suggested two clamps for each attachment point.
