This photo makes me laugh yet scares me. Parked at the rear of their wagon having a picnic? I'm sure there were better and safer places back then. The little kid is three feet from the traffic lane.:coco:

Exactly. Can you imagine the reaction of a LEO if he came across such a thing now? Through the roof, I would imagine.

yup, makes you shake your head in many ways.....why is the kids not playing on the HYW for starters???:rofl2: Seriously though, there is something of a building just up the road with access. If you were broken down and waiting for a tow in the middle of nowhere I could understand the side of the road lunch, but we would at least have the table and chairs up beside that tree as far away from the HYW.......... and then tell the kid to play on the HYW:bigsmile:

I wondered if this was in some Federal Park, especially with the building farther down. That would even be more reason to find a picnic area. This makes as much sense as those hundreds of pictures of people standing feeding bears and looking at them a few feet away.
What this all means some parents trained their kids to be stupid and it's evolved.
I remember when I was only around three my parents said we'd stop along the road to eat and even sleep in the car. I imagine on a two lane road out west in the 40's they were farther off the road and safer.
About playing, I used to tell my wife to go play in the highway. She just won't listen.:rofl2:

Holy Cats! Look at all those Tri-Fives! There are at least five Nomads in that first line. Someone has a heckuva stash!

Now you guys have me wondering if this is a fairly new photo............ and where are these cars? Most look reasonably straight and only some have only a few parts missing.
With a bridge right there they apparently are seen by many people daily.

I'm guessing the pic is from the early to mid 60's. Mid 50's Chevys were not valuable at all back then.

I agree. Someone mentioned it being recent but I doubt that very much. Hopefully most of them were saved. Yet realizing they weren't really valuable most are probably long gone.

The bridge construction style looks newer than that to me. I'll guess the early 80's at the oldest for the photo. Besides, I think I see what could be an 80's Suburban in the background.

I agree now that I figured how to zoom in. Also when did the small satalite dishes come out? Appear to be two very upper right. This is a mystery.:hmmm:

I agree that 80's seems more likely. I do think that looks like a 70s/80s Suburban in the background as well, good eye.
The thing that I keep coming back to is, if it were the early to mid 60s those cars would only be 10 years old, tops. They look in way worse condition than I would expect from a ten year old car, even in a wrecking yard. There have been numerous "wrecking yard" posts on this thread and even the ones that show a mountain of cars all mangled and squished stacked on top of each other look like they are in better shape than the ones in this photo.
My guess is it is the result of someone who has gone out and retrived many of these cars, sometime in the early 80s

Isn't Google able to do a search based on a picture? And it definitely is more recent, just based on the photo quality. Small Sat dishes appeared in the very early '90s, and the bridge construction is very late '80s. The first time I saw such work was in late '89, just after I got out of the Navy.
