Well guys and gals, I'm still trying to find parts and pieces to put this wagon back together. Its been a long on again, off again project. Working out of town makes it really hard to enjoy the hobby. Still want to restore this car to match the wagon my sweet wife and I had when we started a family long, long time ago. Ok ... I located a NOS right rear quarter panel and had it greyhound from Canada to Fort Worth. Its been hanging in my shop. I am still looking for a floor pan for under the rear third seat. I thot that I found one in Oroville, WA but the guy said that his workers filled the Montego Wagon with scrap metal and shop waste and that it was too full to unload and cut out the floor pan. I cried. Anyway ... anyone know where I can locate a decent rear seat floor pan. I'm thinking what I need is from a 1972 - 1977 Torino or Montego Wagon or a 1978 - 1979 LTD II Wagon. I have two donor wagons from Alabama but they are in worse shape than my Nevada car that I am working on.
I wish I had a lead for you,I'm thinking you'll have to keep scouring Boneyards for one from a donor car. For the fun of it Do you have any photos of how bad yours is? I've done a ton of undetectable metal patching over the years,( being cheap and in the northeast I have to be.LOL) . Maybe yours can be repaired? Either way I feel for you,I'm trying to track down some stuff for my wagon without breaking the bank or having to rob one........
Sorry to reply again soo soon.........For the record I've been known to be a trouble maker.LOL ... I don't know anything about this car,but I've been seeing this ad for a while,I don't have the guts to call and look at it(I'm very easy when it comes to buying old cars, and I don't want to get the boss upset with me,so better for me not to look) . I know it's all the way in N.Y. But maybe it's a way better starting point than what you already have? I figure it couldn't hurt to call,Right? 1976 FORD GRAN TORINO WAGON 70,000 mi, original 70K miles, 351 Cleveland, HD rear, Vista Cruiser like lines, clean body & interior, 3 way tailgate, CB mount, stored 15 years, was $1800 or best offer, reduced to $1,600. (516) 872-8902 Valley Stream, NY If you do call, please let me know how it plays out.
Valley Stream (Long Island) is a long, long way from Fort Worth, Texas. I have to admit, when I was younger I bought a Town Car that had migrated up there from Miami, flew up, visited family in Pennsylvania and drove it home. Doesn't sound like this is a cross-country driver having been stored 15 years...and Grandma now lives with us rather than in Pennsylvania. If it had a good floor pan and you bought it and were willing to cut it out and put on the greyhound to me ... that would be a Torino of a different color. Think of all the money you could make parting out a nice car like that.
A 72 - 76 Torino or Montego will work. Or a 77 LTD II or Cougar. I know where there is a '72 Torino Squire wagon, here in GA. I've scavenged some parts off of it already, and plan to return to it for more, before Spring. It belongs to a private individual, back in his woods. I want to get to it before spring (bees and snakes). I'll check out that floor plan, while I'm there, although it has been sitting pretty low, so don't get your hopes up. There might be a problem getting it out though. I don't have the tools to do so, especially that far back in the woods. Is something like that not repairable with sheet metal? Since it's out of site, no one will ever see it. Just a thought.
I think you missed my point, which was ,what if the Long island car is nicer than yours? Shipping is cheap relative to whether you are paying someone or spending a tin of time and money replacing every panel on your car. I just through it out there, nit knowing how bad your car is. As for me,I've parted out tons of cars(mostly vintage Mustangs) But I odn't think I could cut that one up,it sounds too interesting, which is why I won't go look at it,I have a sickness when it comes to buying cars.
