And yet they want the U.S. and Canada to help save their sorry butts from ISIL? Let them spend a trillion dollars (as the U.S. did during the second Gulf War) from their oil-fueled horde of cash on armaments. Not to mention the number of U.S., Canadian and other coalition soldiers killed or maimed on their behalf.

I'd go back to $1.30 per litre gas if it meant saving jobs in Canada and the U.S. Watch: as soon as the oil industry collapses in Canada and the U.S., the Saudis will find the means to manipulate oil back to the $100 per barrel level.

Anyone remember this National Lampoon cover from 1980? I doubt anyone could get away with it now.

Sorry. Just had to get that off my chest. Feel a lot better now.

While I don't disagree with you, the Saudi's will never fund a strong military, what usually overthrows a strong arm utilitarian government? A Military Coup! And they know that, and as long as we are willing to fight the major part of their conflicts why would they?
I also don't like it but they know they are on a fine line price wise trying to exact the most money for there 1 natural resource, to high a price and they encourage alternative fuel sources. Its nothing they haven't done at least 2 times in the past, they did the same thing in the mid 70's and the early 80's. Bankrupted the alternative companies, and made investors gun shy in putty money into such companies.
I can't figure out why we back them so much, when most of the money to finace Al Qaeda came from Saudi's And I am convinced that ISIS is also getting plenty of funding from their Citizens.

    True.

dictatorship + strong military = (sometimes) military coup

democracy + strong military = (usually) stable government and continued democracy

But the Saudis are too fearful/wallowing in princely luxury/entrenched in their system to permit democracy. I say: let 'em fend for themselves for a while and wake up to reality!

Or at least make 'em pay for every smart bomb, cruise missile, gallon of jet fuel and cartridge spent on their behalf. Those things ain't cheap! :(

As soon as Obama decried our "dirty oil" on the Keystone pipeline I new the Saudi's were pulling the strings.

Oil forced from shale rock formations by hydraulic fracturing. Then refined and sold as gasoline by Shell. Sally used to be the cashier at the local Shell station, but got laid off. Now Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore, 'cept on Sundays since Sally sails her sailboat sometimes searching for sea squid. :p

Oh so it's actually shale owned by Shell. I know Sally, she used to sit in the white silver sand sifting sand by the sea shore with Mary Ann after she fractured her knee running from a sea serpent. There's a song about it.:29:
