I just found out today that my local Les Schwab offers a powder coating service for wheels. They also offer a deal if they are the ones that mount and balance your tires after it's all done. I believe my charge will be about $225 for everything. Not bad eh?

That does sound like a good deal. Does that include custom rims? Or just plain steel rims? I wonder if there are Les Schwab's around here. I've never heard of them.

Found their website. When I go to their homepage, it tells me the nearest store is in Fountain, CO. That would be about 1300 miles away. Oh well.

Sorry about that. The offer is for steel wheels and probably something that is negotiated on a local level. I don't really need mine powder coated, just stripped and repainted. My current paint is soft and chipped. I was going to do the painting myself but for less than $60 a wheel to have all that work done (by somebody else), sounds too good to pass up. If you have heard of a supplier for tailgate weather stripping, let me know. Mine isn't a total loss but it would be nice to get a new one.

I've got to paint the Pontiac Rally II's I just bought. That might be something to consider. Lots of Les Schwabs around here. Wheels are already a dark red, so I may need to get them blasted or sanded first. And Rally II's have a 2-tone look on them - silver, and whatever body color you choose.

getting a two tone out of them might be tough but worth a try!

With Poncho rally II's you powdercoat the wheel the argent silver then paint the insets the charcoal or whatever.
I painted the ones on my GTO 20 years ago the correct argent and charcoal for '68 and they look like I did them yesterday.
In either case the rally II wheel masking kit makes the job a lot easier.

In my case it will be white with the argent. Seems kind of counter-intuitive painting the silver first, since all that's left of the silver after the body color gets painted is the spokes. But, that's how you do it.....

Marshall, will you be posting up :camera: of these wheels? Pre paint, post paint and installed would be nice?

Here's a link to a wheel masking kit, possibly the one BV refers to? :tiphat:

I bet powder coating these wheels makes them last a lot longer than spraying them. Good info Martyk! :thumbs2:
