Ha! I don't think that those pictures are from Vegas.... And I think that they put an extra zero in the price by mistake.
Too bad there are not more pics on this one. I'm supposed to get seriously interested on a $70k custom vehicle with just three pics? Totally the wrong selling venue for this kind of vehicle at that price. Should be selling it here maybe: http://www.cars-on-line.com/index.html I'm guessing this started out as a Ranchero Squire, then builder sectioned in the wagon roof....... Paint and graphics are way too individualized. Neat concept, though.
Just wonder how badly the right side is wrecked or rusted out? 1972 was one of my favorite Gran Torino styles. I'm also a lover of Ed Roth so I'd pay the asking price of $7000..............................
Per the VIN, it's a Gran Torino Squire. Also the original engine was a 351 2V. I don't see $70K here, but I'm no connoisseur of custom vehicles. I do wish they'd used a plain sided wagon, though, rather than the Squire. I just hate to see a Squire wagon messed with (personal taste).
I think there's some FUBARing with the title. Look at the door, glass and door opening--that's from a Ranchero! Isn't the frame for the sedan/coupe different at the rear from the wagon/Ranchero? What did this guy do, Frankenstein two cars, two frames and a bunch of sheet metal together?
Compare the three design elements of each of these cars, and you'll see it looks like a cobbled-together body. I'd shudder to think what might have been done to the frame.
I don't see any coupe / 2-door hardtop parts in there, but the doors, front pillars, and quarter panels are definitely from a Ranchero. There was some major work involved here......
As I look closely, it's most likely that it's simply a Ranchero with wagon front fenders (or possibly a whole wagon front clip) and part of the wagon roof and back grafted on. I don't think that any frame mods would be necessary to accomplish this, although there may have been frame damage that prompted all this customization.
That does sound likely, which now brings the question: how did it get to be titled as a Gran Torino? Rancheros are classed as trucks, and I cannot see a state allowing it since they'd lose out on the GVWR tax. That's why I think something's not right (read: dishonest) about the title.
Agree........ but a good idea mixed with expired medication may have been the reason for how it turned out. We don't know "what" it is titled as, what it is titled as and what seller calls it ....... there is no mention of title in the lame lack of info/pics sales listing. I like the idea of what has been done but being IMO clearly paint customized for who ever did it,,, kinda hard to sell a radical custom for big $ considering no matter what you spent on paint or who ever did it, it was done mainly for one eye only, the person that paid to have it done. To me, a 72 Torino anything and Rat Fink paint just don't belong together, and sorry but purple only belongs on a Mopar!
I didn't see that Krash had mentioned it looked like a Ranchero before I did, but ctrysquire did say that the VIN is for a Gran Torino Squire.
