    OMG !!!
The seller wants $18,000 and the Wood grain on the Tail-gate does not even match the rest of the car!
Certainly makes me feel like the rest was not done properly either.

That wagon has a '68 front grill, fascia, and lights. Something strange happened to this car.

Maybe it was in a wreck. Stored in a garage for Years, then put together hastily !

I am the owner and if you two read the original ebay posting (the one you copied the picture from) , I put the 68 header and grill on it because I liked it better then the the 67. and it looked more like a Lincoln then a cheap Montego. The car has the low mileage because the previous owner was too sick to drive and the car was parked in a dry garage since 1984, which an inspection sticker (pictured in the ad) validated. As for the car not being done right and the back tailgate not matching, all I can say is the car had no rust, no damage and someone replaced the paper (before me) with what you see on the tailgate with hardware store wood vinyl. I replaced the wood grain with the repro DYNOC (1,000 bucks from wood grain for wagons, nice people and product) sides and tail gate. At the time I took the pictures I had not yet replaced the tailgate as I wanted to take all the moldings off and polish them and do it right. You normally don't see nice original examples of these big wagons (this one 31,000 original miles) because they were kid movers, then sold to contractors, who finished them off while preparing them for the final demolition derby owners. I thought belonging to a station wagon forum, there would be positive comments and appreciation for cars that managed to survive 50 years intact. You will happy to know this Mercury is leading a charmed productive life helping Charities and has been in multiple network and cable shows as well as Magazine Ads. Sorry to say......Your theories are wrong!!! I wonder what folks would say about your wagons? Maybe you two critical detectives should stick to collecting and commenting on Barbie dolls instead!

    You go boyeeeeee!

Do you still have the wagon? Cuz these posts are oldies. As someone who's owned two of these and involved with an additional one, and a ton of late 60's Mercs, I can tell you, as beautiful as these cars are (and how Lincoln-like) they just don't bring much $$$. Maybe a really nice one, to the right Swede or Norwegian, might bring what you'd ask, but thats a big maybe. The upside to this is that if you like the cars, like we do, they make for a great buy out in the market. For example, I have a '67 Monterey S-55 - restored it may bring maybe 25K, and that's with a 428 and buckets, etc. but yet I see a similar 67 Galaxie with a 289 or 352 asking/bringing the same for a cheaper car. Most times your agreed value for insurance purposes and what it'd really bring on the market are really out of kilter. I have my 65 Merc (loaded, 52K orig) insured for 8500.00 but I know it'd only bring 5 or 6K if I really needed the money badly. Yeah, and this era Fords/Mercs suck in derbies too compared to the Mopars (or GM's for that matter). As for the front end design, I'd have a tough time deciding, as I like both.

First: Gently speaking, welcome to the forum.

Second, thank you for explaining the Mercury to us. I believe I saw the photos when it was initially posted and I'd love to see it now if you have photos. I hope you'll forgive some of the members for not knowing earlier but the eBay description didn't explain the photos were from before you put the new woodgrain on.

Last, speculation is only that: any one of us can be very very off when it comes to speculating about a car without the real story. Some people may fear the worst if something looks off, for example I feel like I overpaid for my 99 Suburban when I first got it but that's another story; the point is we may feel we should walk gently, especially if we've been taken for a ride before. No offense to your Mercury (and I have a 1990 Grand Marquis that I enjoy) but when it comes to as big of a purchase as a car, speculation can have value (but again, it can be off.)
