Somebody's gone to a lot of trouble on this one - either keeping it all original and in excellent condition, or doing a bang-up job on the restoration.

I'd like to know more about its history. Seller's description doesn't give much in the way of detail. And the pics certainly are not from Cary, Illinois where the auction is being held.

Looks to me like a super (and probably expensive) restoration. There are some things that betray the age of the car; e.g. the chromed plastic insert on the passenger side front door interior, the rear cargo area, the dark marks on the top of the front seat.

The pictures by the water remind me of the shore of Lake Superior in Northern Michigan. Possibly similar shores on Lake Michigan in the Chicago area?

I had no idea what this was - an Eskimo in a blizzard? Until I realized - aha! - a flaw in the paint!

Cary, Illinois is not far from Lake Michigan, No. Chicago, Waukegan, etc. Lots of the Lake Michigan shoreline has cement and stones like that so the water doesn't leak out.:)

Most cars up there are 75% rust so I suppose they think this is a rare keeper.

Says 352 in the ebay ad.
Like he's trying to run a bait and switch.

    According to the VIN it's a 352.

And the seller can't type (says VIN is "1A68Y135706") because there is no "Y" engine code for the '61 Galaxie. Only "X" (for 352).

Bidding up to $22,400 with 1 day 16 hours left in the auction.

Doubt that bidding is going to get anywhere near $44k.

Tried to go through the photos but didn't see any of underneath the car.
It would have to be damn near perfect, no rust or completely restored.

Maybe his original asking price wasn't so silly?

Reserve has been met at $36k.

So the seller is actually willing to sell at $36k (or less, don't know what the reserve was), yet was asking $44k as a buy-it-now.

    I wouldn't call that silly - just greedy! :)
