Seems reasonable. I had a dark blue Renault. Pressure washed the engine after work one evening and ruined the engine. Most likely warped the head. Back then scrapping seemed like the right thing to do.
A buddy of mine had one just like this back in the 1980s until it met an Olds Cutlass in an intersection.
My biggest memories of these cars was occasionally seeing one in the right hand lane of the freeway going about 35 mph with smoke billowing out of the tailpipe. This was in southern California during the 1970s. On my friend's we used to call the floor shifter the "swizzle stick"!
The Dauphine is a terribly under-powered car, intended to complete with the Beetle. These are actually kinda fun to drive. Cute as hell, too. Had an uncle that had a tan one in SoCal in the late '60s, and used it to commute in. He only had to drive about five miles, so the car did well for what he used it for.
See that little body-colored panel that sort of splits the bumper in half? - The spare tire is behind it.
I owned one and I can't remember ever looking. They were underpowered but I only drove 15 miles to work in heavy traffic so was no poroblem. I think back at all the money I've lost on cars and it shocks me. That Renault was another mistake.
