I know what you're thinking right now. Patina! Yes, this car has that desirable vintage patina that make the car look like ... it was just towed out of the wrecker's yard.

This car is a sad 'lil critter. Needs to be saved by someone with a big heart (and bigger wallet).

I have no idea what that mess is under the hood.
It confuses and frightens me.

That's not exactly what I'd call it.

There's at least one missing surround rail, and most of the rest look like they've been drilled into -- possibly to secure them due to missing or broken clips.

The dash mask has been painted and "foiled" over and drilled into for switches. The instrument panel has been cut out for gauges, and the homemade radio block off plate is the crowning touch.

The door trim panels have been mismatched to the interior color, Pinto trim has been added and they now sport more speakers than most home theater systems.

The seller claims the previous owner "bored out" the 390 to 428. I'm skeptical. To get the dimensions of the factory 428 requires both an .080" overbore (and risk making the bores too thin) and a .020" increase in stroke. You'd need crank, rods, pistons, harmonic balancer, etc., etc. As expensive as FEs are these days, it would probably still be cheaper to score a whole "regular" 428 from another full sized Ford/Mercury and swap it in.

It's going to take a lot to put this to rights. I hope there's a '69 fanatic with the means to do this out there.

 

The ad says no carpet, but what's that I see on top of the dash??!! Plus, it says the car is "rare".

 

This car is definitely rare. It's certainly not well done.

 

Well, The price listed is $2,000. At least it's not something like $6,000; it would appear the seller isn't being way out of season or whatever.
