what are you trying to accomplish? what is your budget? 2 wheel or 4? automatic controls or manual? stock suspension (no tubular control arms)? Sorry i'm no expert but i did stay inn a Holiday express inn this weekend
I was hoping not to break the bank. This isn't going to be a show car. The cheap way is to cut the front springs and block the rear axle. I'd like it to sit on the ground. Air Tech is $4K with the 4 link setup. I was hoping there would be a cheaper, yet effective way.
I know nothing about air ride. Can't help you there. But the least expensive method will be a static drop, like you mentioned, with blocks in the rear, and lowering springs (or cut springs) on the front. I got my springs from Eaton. They're about $200 a pair, shipped.
have you looked into a dropped spindle? this will give youa lower stance in front for just a few hundred and will maintain front end geometry
On my '76 Montego, my ride is no different with the Eaton springs I installed. They dropped it about 1 1/4". I also cut out a coil of the front springs on my 77 LTD II, dropping it a tad over an inch. Again, the car rode no different than before the change.
I've thought about the cut springs and blocks, drop spindles, etc. It still won't get me to the ground.
Let me know what you decide on. I've got a full air setup sitting in the box waiting to go on my '64 country sedan. The front seems pretty straight forward but the rear is more complicated. It needs a four link installed, and since I don't like the idea of spending $1500 for the bolt on kit I've seen online I'm going to come up with my own setup. I realize that it probably won't truly "lay frame" without notching the frame or opening up the wheel wells, but the ride quality should be great and I won't have to worry about dragging/scraping every time I pull into a parking lot.
