Does anyone here have one? I don't own one now, but in the late 1970's I had several government-surplus Plymouth sedan deliveries. They were Satellite wagons with a factory-installed load platform instead of a rear seat. I'd get a rear seat from a junk yard and turn them into regular wagons for my personal use.

The government also used '68-'69 Fairlane sedan deliveries set-up the same way. They were ultra-stripped with three-on-the-tree manual transmissions.

The station wagons you describe with the rear seat removed and replaced with a "load platform" sounds more like a low budget ambulance or hearse or maybe a coroner's wagon.
Sedan deliveries are usually two door models with the rear side windows replaced with metal panels. The only factory sedan delivery I know of that kept the rear side glass windows like their two door wagon counterparts was the 1960 Ford Courier.

Most sedan deliveries were like panel trucks but the ones I had were classified as 'sedan deliveries' by the government and that's what was on my paperwork. They looked like regular station wagons with four doors and glass all around, with the difference being the one-seat interior with platform.

A sedan delivery and a panel truck are two different. types of vehicles. A "panel truck" is built on a truck chassis and the cargo area has more headroom. A "sedan delivery" is built on a station wagon platform and has a sister vehicle that has glass all around. There are some sedan deliveries that have glass on the sides and were almost always special orders by a government entity. Usually the only real difference between these vehicles and the sister station wagon is that they have no back seat.
Most people identify a sedan delivery by the fact that they have no glass on the sides in the back. I myself don't really consider a vehicle as a sedan delivery if it has glass in the rear quarters.

You can get really creative with a Sedan Delivery. I have had a few Panel trucks but the Delivery was more in line with my ideas. In the 80's I redesigned and built a 37 Chevy Sedan Delivery that I bought from Franks Oldies But Goodies in Texas.
Most of my builds were family friendly and made for cruising. My conversion turned the car into more of a family Station Wagon instead of a Delivery. It had fold down rear seats, lots of storage and the biggest change was replacing the side panels with glass and modified stock trim to make the conversion look stock.
After I sold the car it got written up in Rodders Digest Magazine. It sold again and my buddy in California spotted it at a show on the West Coast. It had been redone and featured in May 96 Street Rodder. The new owner and I became friends and I provided him with pictures and correct and more detailed information from the original build.
It has been sold again and I have since lost track of it.

    Panel truck-----A 1/2 ton pick up platform..................Station wagon------Car platform
    panel_fun85.jpg
Sedan delivery-------A station wagon with solid panels where rear side windows were plus usually a one piece hatchback type rear lid. Some sedan deliveries were special ordered with side glass.
A panel truck with one piece rear hatch or swing down lower and upper lid like a station wagon with windows on the side is a Suburban.

    Delivery Vehicles

    Hi all,
Just wanted to say that I came across this thread while browsing the forum and I think the delivery vehicles are so cool. Martyanderson that 62 Ford delivery is awesome. Didn't really have any vehicles like that here in the UK, more's the pity! If I win the lottery I'm coming over to get one!

Thanks, they didn't have any vehicles like MY sedan delivery ANYWHERE because the factory didn't make a full size 62 Ford sedan delivery. I made this one myself out of a 62 Ranch Wagon. I am guessing it is "one of none" vehicle.

    None

I've always liked sedan deliveries. I was looking for one when I ended up with the 55 Chevy wagon.
My luck, shortly after I bought it then a 57 Chevy and 49 Ford a 55 Chevy sedan delivery appeared. Too many vehicles, not enough money or space, so I still have none of none!:banghead3:

I almost turned my 55 handyman wagon into a sedan delivery.
