When the car is turned off, there is an " electronic" humming sound from the rear of the car and is very noticeable in the "way back" from around the jump seat/ rear wheel area... Is it the electric fuel pump..!? The other day the battery went dead after sitting for two days and its a new battery. I charged it back up and it's fine now but then I noticed this humming and figured that is what is draining the battery... Any thoughts!?

Having a 1990 Mercury Colony Park, I'm interested in what this is too. I thought I heard the same thing while in the way-back part of mine, and my Dad heard it too but I haven't had any battery drainage from it and we just thought it was the fuel pump. It's not the tail-light sound which is more of a click.

Could be the fuel pump or you ran over a Prius and it is stuck under there. You should probably jack up the rear of the car in case there were people in the Prius.

My old Taurus had that loud humming sound for two years and then I sold it, but they didn't have Prius' back then.

I'd guess it's the fuel pump........ or a Prius! But either way it's gonna drain the battery and shouldn't be humming when the engine is off.
What song is it humming? At least where you are it ain't whistlin Dixie!

...I thought I felt a bump... Prius! Good thought. Lol. This humming is definately new...just started. When I turn the car off.. It takes a few minutes for it to start back up. It hummed for about two hours today while at work ( checking it several times). Then when I finally left a few hours later.. It had stopped.

The inertia switch is in the cargo box on the left rear; unplug it to see if the noise goes away. If it does, plug it back in to see if it comes back. If it does, go up front and disconnect the FP relay. If it goes away again, there's your problem--a stuck-closed relay.
