Hi, everyone! So what can I tell you about myself? Well..... I am in my late 40s, married with a 9 year old daughter. My first sentence was "Go bye bye car". I have sold cars for a living since 1986. I have always loved wagons-not sure why. We have owned two Audi Avants (an A4 and and A6) and an Acura TSX Sportwagon. The dealer group I work for is owned by the owner/operator of the Raleigh Classic auction, Auctions America. His personal collection is incredible. He and a local Ford dealer use the auction to buy and sell their own stuff as well as cars from the outside. My brother lives nearby and works with me. He bought a beautiful 1966 Olds Dynamic 88 Coupe at the sale last year and is nagging me to get an old car. I told him I would consider it as long as it was a Wagon. I am no mechanic but I have access to plenty of resources to help me straighten out a car. If I had my way I would have an early to mid '70s GM or Ford Wagon. I think my ideal would be a '72 Vista Cruiser in Orange with beige interior and rally II wheels. I also love Country Squires. I have no idea what my budget really is and I am not in any hurry. I just want to learn more about what ownership is really like. Thanks for having me!
Welcome Funky. Great introduction. Seems like you are in a good position to locate a nice station wagon. All ya gotta do is decide what you really like. Good luck.
Welcome to the SWF, FC! In looking for a wagon, you're probably familiar with most sources, but I'll post up a couple, just in case.... Cars-On-Line: Kind of a more personal Craig's List for vehicles. What makes this site nice, is they already have a 'sort' tab for station wagons (or other categories), so you don't have to sift through a lot of other stuff. One down-side to this site though, is that the ads seem to stay posted forever. Wouldn't be surprised to find that the wagon you lust after was already sold - months ago. The ads are not free, so virtually all are much better quality than you would find on CL.... http://www.cars-on-line.com/index.html Bring-A-Trailer: More of a blog, where their contributors post up interesting vehicles they have found for sale on other sites. They show some very interesting stuff.... They also do their own auctions of a few vehicles every week or two. http://bringatrailer.com/ Old Station Wagons For Sale: Somebody (don't know who), takes the links for all (well, maybe 'most') station wagons up on E-Bay, and puts them in one convenient place, sorted by decade. Site gets updated every 2/3 days or so...... http://www.oldstationwagonsforsale.com/station-wagons-for-sale Hemmings Motor News, Cars For Sale Hemmings does a lot more, but they have a very nice classified section. Most of these vehicles are in the upper range as far as condition and price. The ads are not cheap to run. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/ Craig's List searches: There are a number of search engines to roam through the various Craig's List throughout the U.S. Here are a couple: http://www.adhuntr.com/ http://www.searchcraigslist.org/ Good luck with your searching! Marshall
Welcome aboard Funky Chicken and good luck in your search, narrow the search down to exactly what you want and then buy the best example that you can find. It will take time but it will be worth it.
Welcome to the nuthouse we call Home. We are, by definition, all a bit crazy around here, but since we seem to feed each other's insanity, not to mention inanity, it all works well. Jump in to the discussions, too. When it comes to getting a wagon, the advice above was good. Determine what you want, and what is similar enough to be considered, and stick to it. Set your budget, and then get the very best one you can afford if you plan to keep it stock or close to. One thing to remember is that is you keep them stock, a lot of those very big wagons, with very big engines, are not inexpensive to run. If you drive it a lot, particularly on the highway, there are ways to improve mileage more than most would believe. Have great fun, and good luck on the wagon hunt.
