My '71 Polara Custom Wagon will probably be ready for paint in May. I have been considering go for the full '71 Mopar muscle look with one of the hi-impact colors and a long black horizontal stripe ala the Super Bee and a black out treatment on the hood. She is going to have a reasonable 383 Magnum and sit on torque thrusts. I've considered Plum Crazy, Green Go and Citron Yella or even Go Mango. Just not sure that such a wild look will transfer to a 19'9", 4000 lb. c-body. Interior not such an issue, one day I hope to swap out the bench for buckets so color changes can happen. Any thoughts? I've played with it on the computer but until you see it in person, the potential for ugly is scary.
It should come out well especially if you give it a slight rake by dropping the front 1/2 to 1 inch. Take your time get everything together. And Paint it the color you want. I have seen Plum Crazy,Yellow even Pink Panther
The interior is green but future plans are probably buckets to replace the front bench with buckets and the rest can be dyed.
Cecil just remember to Break up the color with a custom strip kit that came from it's cousin the Fury. and Maybe a flat black hood with a 70 Road Runner Scoop grafted on make it a functional one that 383 will be happier
cecil, go mango would be different! that brings back memories, my grandpap had a 73 polara. except his was a sedan. gold with a white vinyl. when he went back to buick in 86 he gave the car to my uncle who drove it for a couple years, when his son blew the motor, it sat next to his garage for a few years and i played in it!
She was green to begin with so I'd go with Mopars wild green, but it's what you want that really matters. I'd strongly sugest that if you go Buckets for that baby find a era correct set, they are good looking comfee seats and they will look like they belong. A era correct console would set them off also. Have fun, nice ride.
Well....don't ask THIS old guy. I like leaving the era color on them. I like driving down the road in a period correct wagon.....with 500 HP under the hood. Everyone has their respective ideas. And...don't get me wrong...I LIKE some of the wilder wagons too. I think yours would look good with your thoughts on there Cecil. But when I look at that old guy I think...wow, look at that nice wagon that survived all those years.
Cecil the best advice you can get and here you will get many which can be good to help. But also remember do what you want.
Thanks for the input. I have eliminated the idea of some of the hi-impact colors-- just staring at that long beast the word that comes to mind if she were dressed in say, Sub Lime is "obnoxious." Plum Crazy Metallic is still not out of the question and it is so classicly Mopar I just have to keep it in the mix. The Q5 Turquoise just says classy to me and I can sport it up with the right stripe. If I could just have it that way for a month, it would be fun to drive around a Pink Panther/Moulin Roughe monster just for the dirty looks.
