Pretty interesting car. In pretty good shape too for what appears to be an unrestored original.

Would be a big attraction totally restored to original, at car shows.

It needs some big time work on the roof, possibly an entirely new panel, and that is big bucks and big work!

Look at the bubbles all around the perimeter. This is not a minor touch up. Rust like that is major surgery, especially on a large, flat panel like the roof.

I did not notice that earlier, but in all fairness, the Vinyl needs to be removed to be sure. It could turn out to be something on the minor side or it could be a big problem. Until then, it's really anybody's guess in my opinion. If I was interested in buying it, I would definitely want to see what's under it first. On these cars you also really need to check on all the rust issue places they are known for.

That things gotta BAD RASH and I've NEVER seen anythin good underneath one of those vinyl tops when it was like that.
Most of the big 3 only put those tops on roofs that they didn't wanta fix on the assembly line short of replacement.

I believe the vinyl top was standard equipment in the Caprice, one of the ways to set it apart from the very similar, if not as nice, Impla Custom.

Nope - optional. NOTHING was 'standard' in the 60's. That's why you had a whole page full of options on the window sticker.

What you got when you ordered a Caprice (over an Impala) was upgraded upholstery, slightly different trim, some wheel covers (vs. hub caps), and a standard V8 instead of a 6. Maybe some additional sound deadening.

At G.M. that lack of standard equipment carried through Intl the 80s. On an 84 Delta 88, a.m. radio, a/c, and even white wall tires were extra cost options.

On Volvos, metallic paint is still an extra cost option, although black, white and sometimes red are the only non-metallic colors offered.

Metallic paints have been an extra cost item for well over 25 years now.
