I want to replace the heater hoses. Anyone know what size they are? They're the hoses on the passenger side of the engine that loop over the alternator. One has a red stripe on it and under it is a solid black one as shown in the photo below. I'm primarily looking for the size of the "solid black" hose.
They appear to be 5/8" (upper) and 3/4" (lower). Those sizes are fairly standard throughout the American car lines.
Wow. Okay. My friend had a '66 383 Newport, which ran the two sizes. AFAIK, the heater core was the original, as he got it from his dad who owned it since new and there was no receipt for replacing that core.
Well, that's very interesting... Junk Yard Johnny in Phoenix who only deals with Chryslers also informed me that they were both 5/8". I initially went out and got both sizes, but when it came to replacing them both they were 5/8". Perhaps there's some confusion. The two hoses I replaced are the two that run to the front of the engine. In the photo below (which is the B4 photo) they are shown running parallel together. The upper hose (red line) goes behind the air cleaner. The lower hose is shown going to the firewall on the passenger side. Below both of those is shorter hose maybe 18" that loops to the bottom of both hoses if that makes any sense.
What's interesting about that photo is that the left lower hose still looks like a 3/4" hose when compared to the hose with the stripe. If they're the same size, I can't argue with you. I'm only able to go by what I saw,
