Are these cars equipped for ONSTAR?

It will be really interesting to find out what is up with the Roadie. My Cruiser has gremlins, too. When I open my tailgate (bottom) I lose the presets on my radio and it reverts back to AM.

Also...are these cars' windows tinted with the metalized tint material? If so that could do it.

Really bad grounds, DG. Try this. I was gonna do a Relay system for my halogens, but I did this instead, and even my dash lights actually dim, instead of go out. My Halogens shine like the sun. Your ground is cutting out the stored info in the presets chip(s). That's why it goes back to the factory setting.

Good find, Krash. I had that feeling in a prior post. To me...this is the operative answer.
The reason I got the idea is because I noticed a weird color change in those wagons' windshields.

I think that's it, Krash. Today I was sitting on the porch swing contemplating the issue, and noticed the windshield has a wierd reflecting look when looking across it from the side with sunglasses on. No color change, though.

I looked in my 96 showroom brochure and it says the Roadmaster wagons came standard with "solar control" windshield. It was optional on the Roadmaster sedans. No other detail about it. The window sticker also states "glass - solar control windshield." I'll talk to my glass guy next time I see him, and if I learn anything more about it, I'll post it.

Thanks, everyone, for digging into this wierd issue. I guess from now on I'll have to stick the antenna outside when I use the GPS in the wagon.

Or grab the atlas. I sure wouldnt replace my glass for a $100 GPS. Mune works, just takes a long time to get a signal, once it has it, it works flawless.

Yeah, that's the same with mine. Once it finally acquires the signal, it works just as good as it does in the other cars. Strange, but true.

I haven't actually done the math, but it seems on the surface that it would be cheaper to put the antenna on the roof than to replace the windshield... or just to wait a few minutes for the thing to get in communication with the stars before I leave. :)

Anyway, thanks again for all of the help and support. This is a great and fun forum.

I was just kidding about the windshield replacement, Bill. I'm glad you found the problem. I always wondered about that weird look on some of those windshields in those wagons. And guess what...they are in some cop cars and it screws up their radar! They have to hang the gun out the window. At least there is ONE upside to that windshield!

Bill, maybe we need to fire them up outside the car, then once they accuire signal, mount them inside. It shouldnt loose the signal then, I hope. Im gonna give that a try today.
