Or maybe shift hard which would maybe KAlunk. Start with the simple things like the filter and fluid if there are no obvious loose or bad mounts. Apparently something has been wrong or the last owner wouldn't have gone to a transmission shop.
I am thinking it may be vacuum related. That will cause an intermittent problem like this, if the vacuum modulator works correctly sometimes but not others for any reason. Might be worth checking for a vacuum leak, especially on a car that old. Hoses do deteriorate.
The vacuum was checked, it seems to be fine. Thanks for your thoughts. The last time I took her to work everything seemed to be working fine. Is it possible that I'm not letting her warm up enough? When I took her to work the other day, I let her warm up for about 5 mins before I shifted her into reverse and there was no KAlunk. Cool but could that be it???
As I wrote in post #11.-------I've had strange sounds and vibrations that seem to just go away. Hope it's okay. Possibly the wagon was still on fast idle and that caused the jerk KAlunk.
As I have said before.... "It's not like I am agreeing with Cat" But..... I experienced the same with my last Fox wagon and I just only remembered this. I'd put it in gear when the engine was still running at high idle and "kaLunk" and it only happened in reverse for me also. Oddly enough what remedied the problem was applying more pressure on the brake peddle if and when the car was still in high idle. Drove the car for over 9 years like that and nothing ever went "KaBooom" and I learned how to avoid the "KaLunk" on colder mornings Just a though but try it, not saying this is your no need for a slip shot to look at it (Mechanic)...but ya never know and there is nothing more satisfying than telling a slip shot "I solved the problem, you are a ________!"
Tedy---------------->I am agreeing with Cat:2_thumbs_up_-_anima not that I'm agreeing with Cat (I'd ALWAYS do that I've been reading this a lot lately. Thanks Tedy for finally seeing the light! That last stay at the hospital helped.
I think it's time to go back if that's what I said,, my medication must have past the expired date............. But I still think I said 'NOT that I am agreeing.........." Just remember what Mr Rodgers said to you...........
Fannie help ! :rant:Help Fannie. Tedy is off topic again. I think he has a KAlunk and missed his last two pills.
You two are nuts! We've had a busy weekend. Hubby didn't have a chance to check the transmission yet and we are leaving for a break from the routine on Wednesday so I'm not sure if we'll have a chance to before hand...
fannie, fannie, fannie....... you don't have time to start the car (in high idle) and put more/extra pressure on the brake peddle just to experiment "if" that may make a difference when shifting into "R" before you drive to work tommorow? Maybe, just maybe you could set your AM alarm clock 5 seconds before you normally wake up and just try this experimentakanon. Oh wait a minute, I forgot it's a GM product....Yup you need a new everything J/K fannie, hope you get it sorted but try off the wall simple first
Here is some light reading for you. I am assuming you have the 440-T4 (overdrive) and not the 3 speed automatic (non-overdrive) transmission. http://www.lesabret.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6944
Fannie, we have been experiencing a similar problem with my daughters new/old daily (86 model) Falcon and really bad KAlunk when cold we found the adjustment of the kick down cable very sensitive so with minimal change (dam time consuming as you need a cold star situation for each adjustment) and for what its worth we also replace the cable KAlunk be gone
