Does anyone know of a good, reliable (and cost effective) auto transport company. I Have a 1971 Ambassador SST Wagon that I either have to get from Connecticut to Florida or Sell her (if i found a good home that would also be awesome). I does not have to be enclosed, just safe transportation.
When arranging transport for my Way Back Machine (pictured) in late 2012, I found that you end up mostly dealing with 'brokers' who have the contacts with actual small-time truckers. Dealing with an actual vehicle transportation company like Reliable will cost more, but I'm sure be much less of a headache than what I had to deal with. If you can afford the time, I'd suggest renting a trailer and getting it yourself.
It cost me $700 to have my SS transported from Clearwater, FL to Athens, TN May 2013 via an enclosed trailer by a guy that go to Kissimmee Classic Car Auction all the time. I had contacted Minuteman Transport who is based out of FL and price was $1000.
It's fairly difficult finding an actual transport company that is willing to work directly with the consumer. Most of them work through brokers. Another issue is the wait. When transport companies have Honda Civics and Toyota Camrys to choose from, against your classic car, they tend to go with the easier job. So you have to be patient. About a year ago, I had my Montego wagon shipped from San Fransisco to Georgia for about $1100. When reading the reviews, it seems every broker had some horror story. I went with the one that seemed to have the fewest complaints, and I also looked at the BBB for the ones that I had narrowed it down to. Unfortunately, I can't remember which one I went with. But the actual transport company that did the work was Trail-West Transport. They did a great job, communicated with me, etc. They're phone number is 305-801-7335. They may not be willing to work directly with you, but it's worth a shot.
>>>> ================== I forgot to mention that my Dad had used Minuteman to transport a Mustang from here in TN to Clearwater.....I met the guy out by the interstate, gave him the keys, he loaded it, and Dad had it the next day. That's how I was familiar with Minuteman's services.
