while poking around trying to find a way to get more outside air instead of engine bay air to engine, I found this link: http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/thread/1280812920/Made+a+cold+air+intake.+WOW. Thought I'd pass it along, seems like it might be a good junkyard solution. The air cleaner intake on my Colony Park sits right above the intake/driver's side header. Nothing but hot air there.
I've questioned the fresh air intake to my 04 Dodge hemi. Ended up removing the complete plastic unit, box and all. Replaced with a cold air intake which is nothing more than a few elbows and chrome looking 6" plastic pipe. May be 4"? At the end is a cone shaped modern type air cleaner. Trouble is the inlet air is still just above the driver side exhaust header. I believe if I'd reroute the elbow and add a straight 4"-6" (whatever) pipe then a down elbow the air would come in below the passenger headlight directly from outside. Just haven't tried it yet. The first change made an obvious difference in seat of pants feel and sound. Nothing helps my fuel mileage however. 14.9 city, highway, or parked! 9MPG pulling an RV
If you can get a direct source of outside air then it will help. What you choose and how much you spend is up to you. I plan to use this. on Sarah's car, with some intercooler tubing and a cone filter. The filter will be boxed in in front of the fender. I was going to put it under the fender well in front of the tire but have had friends voice their concern about water ingestion. I have also looked at these. They look pretty nice. http://www.ramairbox.com/index.html
