I have only seen a couple of these in my Life. I always thought they were Kool. I always Liked the Horse Shoe Shifters and I wonder if the red Carpeting is Stock? I once owned a 74 Trans Am that was Black with a red Pin Stripe, no Hood Bird, Black Interior with bright red Carpeting. And I later found out it was optional and was probably stock. http://treasure.craigslist.org/cto/4577956446.html
I didn't even know Buick made these. Looks like either he or his neighbor has a red one as well. My mom had a 1970 Skylark 2dr. Fantastic looking car; it was yellowish/cream with a brown painted roof. In High School, I'd always have to move the cars around in the driveway so I could take her's instead of my father's 4dr LeSabre. The Skylark was much "cooler"!!
Might be rare, but I think I would take a pass on one of these. There's a good chance the fabric slide-back sun roof is prone to leaks, and a good place for rust to start. No electric mechanism in this sun roof to have problems with, but all the same, not a design I would want to mess with.
The red carpet is not correct for this car. If it would have had red carpet from the factory, the bottom of the door panels would have had red carpet too. There is a strong following for the Sun Coupes and in fact a reunion is planned for the GSCA meet in Bowing Green, KY this October. Not only were there Skylarks made but GS's too up to and including the 455 Stage 1.
I remember seeing some of these cars around Atlanta back in the day. I think there is a man that has one on my bus route. I'll have to look tomorrow when the kiddos start back to school and report.
I saw the car yesterday sitting on drive outside his garage. It's a beautiful light blue metallic with white top. Has the Buick road wheels. I will try to get pictures sometime but will have to borrow a digi camera as mine went toes up about a month ago!
