    It's rare alright, but gawd is it ugly! I can't believe engineers would have spent so much time designing it. :evilsmile:

    It is a true beetle:rofl2:

    It is a perfect example of art-deco, it has soul and heart, the things that have been missing from car designs for way too long.

    They don't make a bugspray strong enough.:D It almost looks like a civilian version of a WWII APC.

    But you're right it is an Art-Deco icon (oclast).:evilsmile:

    You have to put this in the right context. This was 1936 - art deco and all that. 'Modernism' was all the rage. Chrysler just came out with their 'Airflow' body design, which was a daring step forward (and not all together well received). If you look at a Chrysler Airflow, and then at the Scarab, you can see they both came from the same school of thought of design.

    Yeah, even the early Volks had that look, and the late 40's Mercs and Fords.

    Oh, the one that looked like the 40's Mopars and Fords.

    Edit* I did until I saw more pics of it. I still think it was a concept way ahead of it's time. The base price was $5,000! That's $76,170.29 in today's money. http://www.automotivehistoryonline.com/stout.htm
