Hey guys, I'm sticking my neck out here but, I am a demolition derby nut! I am looking for one of the 71-76 GM round back wagons, the strongest wagon ever made! I would like for it to be basically be in one piece, but no motor and trans, no problem. Naturally, I would like to get it for near nothing, and an old yard car would not be a problem. I am in BC, Canada and would come and get it, but let's be real, I don't want to drive for hours to pick one up. Should you have one, or know someone that does, please message or email me. Moreover, if you have ANY old station wagon, that I can get CHEAP!!! please email me.
Kinda like asking PETA where a good place to set out bear traps is. Thanks for being honest about your intentions, though.
I agree, your honesty is refreshing. Good luck. Right off the top of my head I do know of a candidate right here in central Florida but it's too far away and I don't think the owner wants it to become demo material. Altho we do have a demo track near. I think you should stick to Prius's and Hondas!
Kinda like asking PETA where a good place to set out bear traps is. Now that's some funny stuff right there!
Well, welcome to the forums anyway, but it's true, we are here to preserve the cars. When I had my son's '72 Kingswood Estate for sale. One of the first questions I had for them was "Do you do Demo Derby"? Most of the time the answer was "yes" and I went on to explain that this car was too good to crash (although we really don't even like to see our parts cars crashed). Sure, it took me longer to sell it and more effort to sell it, but I was glad to see it go to a restoration enthusiast. Bill
There is nothing to stop a buyer who wants one for a demo derby to say he wants to restore it and then demo it anyway once it's his. No one can control what happens to a car once it's no longer theirs regardless of what the buyer said his intentions were, if he said at all. No law requires him to say, for that matter.
Very true, but in my case I went by gut feeling. The guy that bought it was actually a pretty nice guy. He even brought his girl friend with him and she was telling me how impressed he was with the colors of it to boot. And if I were to be fooled ?? ...
Yes it is true, once your car is sold and gone, the new owner is free to do whatever he likes. But usually you can get an idea what the owner plans to do. Even an honest buyer may decide to go another route after he looks a vehicle over awhile. When I sold my all original, not quite finished, 1933 Chevy 4-door, the first potential buyers planned on making a street rod out of it. One actually talked about chopping the top. Eventually, being the fool I am, I traded for a 1948 Chevy panel truck project and a 1950 Studebaker without an engine. My original reason for selling the 33 Chevy was to give me room and money to work on other cars I had. We hadn't been in Florida long and I finally was retired and had free time to work on them. At least the 1933 Chevy was finished and used at car shows. Eventually it was sold several times and I lost track of it. Maybe it ended up in the demo derby! At least my Model T went to a museum.
yeah, i didn't want to offend anybody but i couldn't think of a better place to find an old parts car wagon that wasn't loved anymore. Or maybe the owner wanted to see it get derbied for the fun of it. Anyways if anybody does here of one Cheap let me know. thanks!
Here's the thing. If a car is solid enough to stand any chance in a derby, it is a very savable car. By the time the underside is bad enough for it not to be a good donor or candidate for restoration, it is way too weak to interest someone who wants to destroy it by destroying other cars. I'm afraid you really are in the wrong place, as we do try to look out for the cars that have potential to be kept running.
This reminds me of the year old VW Squareback I bought when that body style was fairly new. I loved VW's and had good luck with them. Let's just say that after my VW Squareback spent more time at the dealership than my house I'd loved to seen it demo derbied. :banghead3:
Hey Roundy, you might want to check out this thread. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27690 I don't know if there's any contact info for any of those pics, but it might be worth a shot.
