This guy's a jerk and pretty prejudiced by some of his comments! I can't beleive he writes for yahoo!

We had a 56 ford Dump truck that was hand-painted and my Wagon has whitewalls on the back and blackwalls on the front...

    Hmmm...
    Lets see here.
When I bought my car it had el-cheapo tires on it that were mismatched and going bald.
The engine was covered in gunk.
The carpet has a bunch of stains front and rear.
The only service records that were with the car was for an alternator and a fuel pump that was put on a year or so prior to be buying it.

Man it looks like I got screwed!:rofl2:

From my point of view these were all bargaining points that got the price from $2800 on the windshield to $2000 out the door.:1st:

And for the record good luck getting a magnet to stick to many newer cars, many of them have plastic body panels!
If I worked for Car and Driver this guy would be reduced to an office mouse and only allowed to take out the trash and make coffee, and to think that used to be a good magazine.

i change my own oil and use the best (in my opinion) oil, and i change it every 5k religiously. i also rotate my tires every 5k. i buy cheaper tires because i cant justify spending $200per tire on michellens when i can get 4 dean aplha's for the same price. with proper rotation they seem to last just as long.

I learned my lesson when i lived in south florida. the roads use a coral stone instead of limestone as an agrigate. coral stone is very abrasive.
and after going through an almost $500 set of Falken zirex performance tires on my zx3 in less than a year. so cheap tire from there on out.

my point is, my car is sellable and why wouldnt you buy it? its clean and has under 100k. if a car hasent been serviced, i trained eye can tell. you just need to have someone with you.

A1A, you raise a good point. Since our road surfaces are also unique for the local material aggregates, our Tire companies adjust the formula for the different regions. I recall a Firestone engineer mentioning that very point when we toured their factory.

We're a limestone region, whereas Ontario uses shale a lot in the lower North and South, as does Quebec and New Brunswick. BC is the only one that adds recycled shredded tires in their mix. Alberta uses sand and granite.

Kind of wasteful to import tires from Japan or Europe, unless its for a showcar.

Looks like it came from Car and Driver! Seems like they have lowered themselves to including tabloid quality articles. :(

Although most of the points Huffman is making have a kernel of truth in them, the article seems to be intended for the yucks, rather than good useful consumer information.......

I do agree about the tire issue, especially on a late-model.

And a salvage title can simply mean that the headlight assembly on that five year old car that needs replaced, after that little incident in the parking lot, cost $1,950 by itself, another $2,500 in repairs to get it installed, and the combined cost was $450 over the current book on that car!!!

What if the car was previously owned by a nature freak that liked to collect acorns? And I've never heard of squirrels hiding stuff in glove compartments.Unless it's left open, how do they get in?..The big warning here in California is;if the used car has no license plates,it's probably stolen(or used to have personalized plates they wanted to keep)...And exactly how do you have three children with four women?Shouldn't that one be four children with three women? If the Camaro owner hasn't had a kid with the fourth woman, why even mention it?Why even worry about any of that?..You're buying the car,not the owner!..The dad that told us kids,"the problem with most American cars is,they get sold to most Americans." also told us,"It takes only one bad owner, about three months to ruin a perfectly good car.But a good owner can save it,just like Jesus saves souls." Oh,and if it smells like meth,it might be the fertilizer they put on the baseball fields at the park. I do believe they call that article steercrap propaganda of the most fertilized order.

Mine did, it was "WDN NKL" He called the car the wooden nickel, which I thought was dumb.

But this guy should be told to bring it back a bit, with his talk of trailer trash and camaro driving multi-partnered individuals, he's going to end up really offending somebody and get his behind handed to him.
