I just changed the oil on my 65 Impala wagon, which is a 327 Powerglide car. The filter is a Purolator L30001, which seems to be a Ford listing. I guess the filter was changed from canister type to standard spin on cartridge at some point, but I'm a bit puzzled why it's a Ford item. Were there a number of different canister replacements? And yes, I am sure it's not a Ford motor!!!
Stranger things have happened to cars over the years. But think positive. Maybe it will run faster with a Ford filter. Have you compared that Ford filter with the Chevy filter that is listed? May be the same or similar. I can't remember when GM switched to spin on filters.
Years ago (70's) I installed a spin on filter adapter on a 327 that required a Ford filter. I don't remember the brand of the adapter anymore, but it worked fine....just had to remember to keep the correct filter on the shelf.
You may have an aftermarket spin-on filter conversion. I remember places like J.C. Whitney having them in catalogs. I'm not positive when GM went to spin-on. I know my Dad's 60 Chevy with the 283 had the canister. I've got a 327 ready to drop in our 67 Malibu wagon that has a spin-on from the factory, and I have a stock, Chevy small block WIX filter on it.
I never minded the old Cartridge Type Filters in my V-8 Chevys. I can still remember the old Fram number (CH200PL). I believe the last year for them was '67. Bill
I personally never used TP but also heard a lot of peope did. Especially when they couldn't find a filter or didn't want to clean the old one out. It was popular for Fords that ran like crap!
