Pretty much any scrapyard will take PIECES of a car. It isn't hard to cut one up, destroy the VIN (and VIN derivatives, if you care), and scrap the pieces.
I agree. Check every scrap yard in the region. A neighbor of mine had two cars (a 62 Grand Prix, and a 71 4 speed Lemans wagon), stored outdoors at a self storage place (behind locked gates). Apparently someone with access to the place and access to a tow truck removed both cars as well as a couple others that were stored there. The thief worked part time at a scrap yard and took the cars there for recycling. By the time it was figured out what happened the Lemans wagon had already been crushed, though they rescued the Grand Prix in time. The thief went to prison, but it was too late for the Lemans. I hope you get it back. Good luck.
In these cases the thieves should go to the crusher with a real junker car, hooked tightly in the seat belt for safety. :banghead3:
Lori, you could consider posting pictures on Craigs List and Kijijji noting it was stolen, date and time, any other identifiers, note which police dept is handling it but that they can call any police nearby with their tip. Offer a reward, something you can afford but noticeable. But don't pay until you have the car back and the police say yes, pay. I'd do he adverts in towns as far away as a couple of States. Are there any buildings around where the wagon was stolen that have cameras? If you find any, tell the police and perhaps they'd then go ask for a look to see if it shows up. Don't wait too long, they recycle the tapes every few days IIRC. I hope you get your baby back. I can't imagine how disappointing this must be for you. Good luck, please keep us posted.
Now that is a GREAT idea! Stolen from a down town street, some ones big brother camera just may have spotted something and considering you have a time frame of when it was stolen that in itself would save time viewing tapes.
Post many ads on Craigslist throughout your state/ area. You may want to offer a reward. Time is of the essence. Go through the yellow pages and contact everyone with a tow truck and all scrapyards and junkers. This is a very difficult car to make disappear since its parts will stand out. Making it known that your wagon is on a "hot sheet" will make people reluctant to touch it. Hopefully it won't be used for illicit crimes and then made to disappear. Hopefully you get your wagon back in one piece. Wayne
Sure sorry to hear that. I know all too well what it's like though. Had a GMC Jimmy stolen from my yard right after I had finished rebuilding it, reported it stolen and everything but thought it was gone for good. Anyway a week or so later I saw one listed in an auction and figured I would have a look to get my mind off of the whole thing. Took a back road headed to the auction, came around a curve and there was my Jimmy sitting at the side of the road. It had a smashed side mirror and bent rim but was ok other wise. Just goes to show that you never know what will happen. Best of luck and hope it turns up.
Why not post a craigs list wanted ....maybe the thieves are stupid! Wanted for a movie shoot paying $5oo a day for wagon(described as yours)
back atcha.... Thanks for posting the photos for me. I"m not tech savvy often. lol No, I didn't check scrapyards yet. I call impound daily, and called the station again this a.m. I think it's kinda dumb that they haven't found it yet. WHO doesn't see that driving around. I've got all the car fix it, autozone guys, everyone that knows and loves my car, as well as friends that are in motocycle groups that go all over on meets and stuff to keep an eye out. May next to the lost-dog-flyer bit. My God. This sucks so bad. I love that car. I'll check the scrap yards. My biggest fear is dismemberment of my beloved car. sob.... I've had quite a few people tell me that they have had a car stolen, and it took over a week, but they got them back. One guy at Conrads said he'd had 3 taken and one was a big LTD, and he got them all back, one was minus a battery and radiator.....but they came back. Young guy....giving me hope. Renewed faith in mankind. lol Thanks for letting me slobber and whine. You GET me. haha Keepin hope alive.
Sorry to hear about this.... Sometimes, a vehicle is stolen merely to provide the thief way to get from here to there. Sort of a 'Steal-A-Ride' as opposed to 'Dial-A-Ride'. If that's the case, it may turn up in a town some miles away........ Good Luck, and I hope your wagon gets returned in satisfactory shape. Marshall
