Thanks for the responses--they'll really help.

I also noticed the blower is out of balance, vibrating on higher speeds. How hard is it to remove and/or replace the blower motor?

Also, can anyone let me know how to get at the a/c water drain?

Had that problem on the tracker once. I opened up the blower housing and it was full of enough mouse nest material to stuff a mattress. Took a bunch of work with a shop vac to get everything out of the system but the heat worked a lot better when I got done. ;)

You were right! Blower fan had evidence of mouse activity. Heater core, not the a/c core was completely covered with the fibers from the mice.

After about three hours of disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and Lysol spray on the heater core and into the cowling air intake, all is well!!

    Thank you all.

That one wasn't bad at all. You could actually see through the fan vanes. :D. Glad it worked out.

Any time you work around mouse activity be very careful about breathing and touching things.
    Glad things worked out.

I've been having a similar problem with my Durango. Didn't notice anything all winter running the heater, but smell it now that I'm using the AC.
I also only smell it for the first few minutes, then it seems to go away.

I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a special spray you use on both the fresh air intake and the recirc intake to clean out any mustiness. It is a fungicide, so it kills any mold spores, not just hides the odours. As long as you know the vent is clean, and there is not mouse activity in there, this stuff works!

I've also used that before a long time ago, but unless it is mixed with a deodorizer, you'll still have the smell for a while, as the smell comes up when the condensed water soaks into the crap on the evap coils.
