I've got to do some minor body repairs around the rear doglegs. I finally broke down and bought a small MIG welder, so I'll get down and dirty and do that once the weather warms up. And I've got a parts car and I thought "nothing can stop me". Well, I do bow to this guy in New Zealand and our own Dr. Brian (67 LTD maestro). Anybody who feels he can't do body patching should follow this guy's personal blog. The 1979 Fairmont he's working on is a New Zealand car, sea salt is in the air. Australia is where they were built, and getting replacement panels is a major ordeal, let alone cost. He'd never done it in his life, and he took on a car that was rotted out. Start with his early December 2009 posts, and keep clicking the "Newer Posts" link at the bottom of each page. Except for our Dr. Brian and some really old early 50s Buick Roadmaster restos, I would never have even started on this guy's Aussie Fairmont basket case! He cut sections out that I never would have dreamed of cutting out, and welded them back in, after finding that others, even pros just bonded over (what he calls 'bog'). Start here: http://www.kaitaia.com/Project/?page_id=2 Then click here. Looks like the same page but has the Newer Posts link: http://www.kaitaia.com/Project/?paged=9 And maybe his favorite energy drink gave him that 'eye-of-the-tiger' persistence? (middle of the page). Try that trademark over here! http://www.kaitaia.com/Project/?p=22 After reading that, you kind of wonder what you CAN'T restore. Worth the time, for the pics, and especially his comments on each step.
I just started stripping off the trim clips for my woodgrain trim. I'm going to polish them back to aluminum like the 1980 to 1983 non-woodgrain fox wagons. Sure is nice of you to pop in. I miss your quick wit.
I lurk here once in a while. I found a 1980 diesel VW Dasher (Passat) here but he wants too much money. Fair condition average is $800 to $1,000 but he wants $1800. He can keep it.
Well Krash I do lurk once in a while. My 92 Ranger is getting long in the tooth and considering another wagon or F100 or something. My Cougar sure could haul from the Home Depot so a wagon is a decent truck replacement.
