Yeah, I used to have a '69 Caprice sedan with the hide-aways, which were rare, but the light monitors on the front fenders were even more rare on these cars.

Everything was an option back then. I remember seeing Morony stickers on new cars that had 30+ optional items listed. Nowadays, most stuff is included in whatever version you pick out. You'll see options for things like special paint, 'packages' for electronics, luxury, etc, but that's about it.

Without options, this well-loaded Caprice would barely be nicer than a lower-level Brookwood.

 

Absolutely. I have seen stripped Caprices, Electras, Ninety-Eights and loaded Bel-Airs, LeSabres, and 88's. Back then you picked the options you wanted and granted more of the higher end models had more options, but still it was optional and you got what you wanted. Now it is a bunch of option packages. Back then trim levels were basically the level of exterior chrome or interior "plushness" such as wood-grain accents or seat/carpeting materials rather than features such as power windows, locks, light monitors, etc.

I liked it because it is what makes the older cars all so unique.

I have a fairly loaded '73 Pontiac Grand Ville (top of the line model), but I have seen some pretty plain ones... in turn, I have seen some loaded Catalinas. I once almost purchased a '73 Catalina with power windows, power locks, cruise, tilt, Am-Fm, vinyl top, side moldings, bumper guards, bumper strips, cornering lights, power trunk, 455 engine - it was loaded to the max and a very unique car.

One photo does not tell anything about the car, but in a way it does. Clearly there is damage to the passenger side front fender but to what extent you can't tell. And as for the rest, we will just never know as it is a one pic wonder selected pic. For all we know it could be a complete rust bucket but if not why only one very selective pic? Even in the one pic, it's hard to tell but I suspect damage of some sort to the passenger rear quarter, it just doesn't look rite. The rust bucket truck beside it in the back ground is almost a better pic than the wagon itself.

Minus 100 points IMO.

 

Yes, it could be hiding rust. More pics would help quite a lot.

 

Hey guys, just wanted to say hello, this is my first post although I have peeked in on many posts the past couple years. I contacted this seller when it was listed on craigslist and asked for pictures of his car, he is stuck at $3200. I received the pictures literally one month later, and it is rusty. I cannot figure out how to post the pics or I would be happy to share them.

 

Welcome! I think the forum software wants you to have a few posts under your belt before it allows you to post photos.

 

Speaking of that, this 1972 Caprice sedan is a perfect example. It is the top of the line Chevy sedan for '72, but this is an extremely LOW optioned. One of the more popular options that you see on most of these that this car lacks is A/C. It looks like it has aftermarket A/C, but not factory A/C. Also no tilt wheel, no cruise, no power options at all. The outside is fairly nice optioned though with bumper guards, door edge guards and vinyl top.
