Vintage air diverter wings

    Sure agree with that. I've been keeping my eyes open at some of the rear spoilers on various cars. Gotta be something out there that can be adapted to a wagon.

    Let me see here. I am not into high speed drag racing. But race cars have a spoiler that diverts air upward to hold the rear tires on the track.
    Would a station wagon spoiler raise the rear off the ground at speeds increasing fuel mileage with less contact with the road?:slap:

    When I bought my Vista, it didn't have an air deflector.

    So.... that was one of the first things I did. Bought one from a guy on ebay off of a 71 Vista, painted it the closest I could get to the body and mounted that bad boy! I think it makes the car look THAT much better. Also... yes, it does help keep the back window free of dust and dirt.


    Are people having a hard time finding deflectors? Well, I guess I had a rather tough time, but not as bad as finding other specific parts. I actually have a deflector that I bought before the other one that might be for a 68 Vista. I don't have the gaskets or mounting hardware, but it is a nice deflector. I've been thinking about putting it up for sale here, as it did not sell on ebay.

    Like I said, I think they make a BIG difference in the looks.

    On the midsized Mopars, the air deflector was a factory option, painted to match the car. On the full sized fuselage wagons, it was standard equipment, again painted to match the car. On the full sized Ford and Mercury wagons, starting in 65, they were built right into the design of the car. The D-pillar IS the air deflector, being 2 C shaped pieces, one inside the other, with vanes to direct the air across the back window. I have no idea what bright spark decided they should become optional again, although I suspect the deflectors were a victim of the CAFE regulations, as they do tend to cost about 1 mile per precious gallon of gas.

    I figure that it cost Ford more money to make the air deflector standard from 65-68 on the full sizers. By making it optional in 1969 onwards, a new buyer had to buy the optional roof rack to get the attached air deflector. Ford made more money that way.
