I just bought this wagon (less than 2 weeks ago) and I'm still going over it bit by bit. It's a '65 Mercury Colony Park. This is my first vintage vehicle. I belong to a vintage trailer club so a wagon was an ideal vehicle for me. I was just told that this wagon is "the crack to my dorkiness". I already purchased the vintage trailer mirrors and I think it looks even better with them!!! OK, so I am a dork.

It's in pretty good condition and it runs great which is even better. The woodgrain is faded and it appears there is no really good way to fix that other than replacement. Maybe someday. It does bug me that the tan trim woodgrain is now white. It's from CA so it saw a lot of sunshine.
It appears that the woodgrain had been replaced once already and they did not put the COLONY PARK lettering back on (in a Ziploc in the glovebox).

I hate talking about me because the wagons are what we really care about here. I am a woman and feel intimidated in the car world. I have a few mechanicals friends that are helping me out and went to see the car with me to make sure it was a good deal. I plan to learn all I can about this car so I feel more confident.

I would love a ('57ish) Chevy Nomad but I don't see that in my future or budget. Maybe a '59 Ford Ranch Wagon? I was raised a Ford Girl so the Mercury is a good choice for now. My dad had a couple fake woody wagons when I was growing up & I never thought I would have one myself... on purpose!! Things change.

:Welcome:Dork----------------------- Ooops! TripleJ. There are a few other dorks here who own station wagons and antique trailers so you will fit right in.
That's a really great looking wagon. When you find a cheap 57 Chevy Nomad let me know.

Welcome to the club TripleJ :Welcome:
Beautiful car you have there, I have many pictures that I took of it at Back to the Bricks 2012 in Flint. It was for sale then for $8750 which I thought was a great deal.
I didn't see it there last year when I took my Ranch Wagon to the same show.

Keep us up to date on your adventures!

Thanks for the welcome. Maybe I should have used DORK as my user name! Don't sit by the computer CatModelT waiting for the cheap Nomad siting. If I ever have an extra $60K laying around, I might have one someday. I did see one a few years back that was only $18K and not that bad. I did not know how expensive they were or I would have taken that more seriously. Oh well. :banghead3:

Welcome aboard! We are a lot like family here and enjoy knowing the person behind the wheel of that wagon as much as the wagon. For the most part you will find a friendly bunch here and hate to sound corny but a family of sorts here. Hell a couple people here are considered by me to be close friends and I have never met them in person. So hang out here, participate in some threads and I think you will understand where I am coming from!
Welcome and thanks for joining! :Welcome:

Well about all I can afford to do now is sit by the computer and dream. We also passed up a few nice Nomads. Mostly when I was dealing on a 57 Chevy convertible and later a 57 hardtop. Both cars I agreed to buy but were gone when we got to the houses.
Nomads are a few dollars more expensive now. I just drive my 55 handyman wagon and fantasize.

Yeah that's probably it BPinsent. I think I got a good deal on it. It has a few issues but I think it's a good one to get my feet wet. If it was perfect I would be too worried about it.

:Welcome: to SWF JJJ shewagondork. :D

When I was reading your post it reminded me of my first post. I really enjoy cars but I'm not that mechanically inclined. I too want to learn about the rebuild process about my car as we go along. It has slowed to a snails pace but it's not at a stop.

Your car looks really great, do you drive it? What plans do you have?

    Welcome to the SWF, TripleJ!

That's a fine Colony Park you have there. Post up some interior pics when you get a chance.

Yours looks pretty nice. A lot of the '65/'66 Colony Parks we've seen our there are a bit more the worse for wear than yours. And coming from California, you know it's solid.
