    The brown one with 42000 miles on it that was up a few weeks ago went for $7300, if I remember correctly. That was a nice Colony Park but after seeing it at Carlisle, I recall the wood had a few scratches in it. Other than that, it looked like a 42000 mile survivor. Frankly, the blue one looks to be in even better shape.

    It is a beauty. I am not a fan of the high-back seats that FMC offered in some of their 1973 full-size wagons. AFAIK, that was the ONLY year they offered high-back bucket seats in their big wagons.

    I'm tall enough in the body that the higher back is appreciated. Too many car seats catch me at the shoulder blade, and my neck very vulnerable to whiplash in a crash. When I got the 89 Grand Marquis new, I spent the extra $1,000 for the LS package because the seat back was an inch higher than the GS.

    The seller says PRISTINE ! Well, check-out the Horrendous blue over-
    spray in the Engine compartment! Yuk! Makes you wonder what else
    was Earl Scheibed.... ( A cheap paint guy in Chicago from the 70's )

    I can understand wanting to put a fresh coat of blue on the valve covers but at least take them off the engine first...

    I love this wagon. I'm not interested with a 460 but it seems worth $6K to me. The overspray will burn off the manifolds in time. Everything else can be touched up with thinner.

    Loooooooong story.................

    I have acquired this wagon. I went to see/drive this car in early January after the second eBay listing ended. It was in remarkable condition but not "pristine" as described. While the original paint was incredible, it had a few dings and chips, but the biggest flaw was the corner of the rear bumper on the passenger side had been pushed in from the side toward the fender, flattening the rear quarter-panel molding near the marker light. The sheet metal had not been touched, though.


    It drove like it was new, no squeaks or rattles or clunks. Pluses: 460-4v, Luxury Brougham Interior Trim, which included the "full" high-back twin comfort lounge seats (72KE is correct, 73 was the only year for these in a wagon, 74-on offered them as "3/4" high with the headrest). P/W, P/L, P driver's seat, working A/C, deluxe luggage rack w/ air deflector, interior excellent, no rust. There were no indications the 55,800 miles on the odometer was not accurate. Minuses: 6-passenger (why have a car like this without DFRS) AM-only radio, no rear defrost, clock was not working, and RF and LR power windows did not work.
    Story on the car was it was owned by a gentleman on the eastern shore of Maryland, used on a horse farm and parked inside a heated carriage house since it was new with 9 other classic vehicles. (This would explain the condition of the paint). When the gentleman passed the cars were auctioned at an estate sale. The classic car dealer that had it went to the sale to bid on a 40’s something Buick real woody, and could not leave the Merc wagon there because it was in such good condition. He admitted he wasn’t sure what it was as he dealt mostly with Buicks and Cadillacs, but it was too nice to leave behind. Now, the eBay listing was done by a friend of his who is also a classic car dealer as a favor, which explains some of the shenanigans with the listing price. At any rate, I offered him the listed minimum bid of 6200 which he did not except, indicating his price, and the reserve, was 8000. I attempted to negotiate this down considering the issues and while he indicated he would make allowances for those a figure never emerged. I left the car there.


    After the last eBay listing ended with no bids on the now 7800 minimum bid price (and the 8000 reserve I now knew) I called the man, whom didn’t impress me as shady or unreasonable, he just didn’t need to sell the car. We subsequently made a deal, which was less than his reserve but probably more than what most folks on this board would consider. However, I wanted this car, having owned the Ford version (73 Country Sedan) as my first car, I knew what it was, it was more desirable to me than the Colony Park version as I wouldn’t have to deal with woodgrain issues and it was more rare (2464 Marquis wagons built in 1973), especially with that interior option. I will keep the actual amount to myself to avoid the flames. But the price of what a car like this is worth can’t really be found in a book somewhere but more of what it is worth to someone who wants it, am I right?


    So I drove it 174 miles home to S. Jersey using 12.15 gallons of 93 0ctane which comes out to 14.32 mpg. Not bad considering it could probably use a tune up as it appeared to have the original plug wires on it. It did not miss a beat though, and by the time I hit the interstate she had her highway legs and showed that she was the cruiser I knew she would be. The looks on the faces of the drivers of the econo-box/crossover/suv/pick-up drivers as I boss-hogged past them on I-95 was priceless.

    So now I am searching for some DFRS cushions, a factory AM-FM radio, and it will get dual exhaust…..and yes, that clock will be fixed.

    Anybody got any medium blue DFRS in stock?

    That was indeed a former roller-skating rink that the vehicle was parked in, hardwood floor and all.
