Been searching around for a place to post and share information on a 1966 Malibu longroof project I started last year. Currently retired and enjoy being a Grandpa. I have been doing car projects since before I had a drivers license. My first love is 1937 Chevy's which I have had about nine. My Grandsons and I still enjoy cruising in one I built over 20 years ago. My other current driver was a 1956 Chevy 210 2door wagon that (please don't hate me for this) I re-designed into a custom ElCamino. One of my other favorites has always been the 1966 Chevelle. A couple of years ago when I went to Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise, I found a 66 Wagon on Craigslist. This has now become my latest (They should have built one of these) project that I am turning into a 2door with a bit of the old Nomad design influence. Hope to create a build thread on the 66 and maybe get some input and help for parts and creative ideas.
Welcome to the SWF, RMay. Nice opening post. I will await with interest your project thread on the 2-door wagon. I know there have been some builds of the '66/'67 Chevelle wagons, turning them into 2-doors using pieces from a '64/'65 2-door wagon. I'd perhaps like to submit to you another alternative..... in '66 (and all the way up through the '72 model year), you could buy from Chevy not only a 2-door hardtop Chevelle, you could also buy a 4-door hardtop Chevelle. See where I'm going with this? Right off I have to say I get weak in the knees were these cars are concerned, 2 drs or 4drs, wagon or not I love then all. I'll be watching for your bulid thread. Thanks for the intro and to SWF.
Cool. I grew up in the Rochester area. Irondequoit and Penfield, in that order, to be exact. Graduated from Penfield High School in 1975. Haven't lived in the area since 1979, but visited many times since as my parents lived there until 2012 (and have now moved out to the sunny southwest with me!).

Me too, but Pittsford then Penfield. Family moved to SYR by that time I was of junior high school age. Returned to ROC for college. Small world, eh?
Still not a bad place to live. Born and raised here. Not as big a fan of the snow as I used to be but I can survive it. Winter is a good time to work on the cars. I think when the good weather rolls around we appreciate it more and usually spend those months driving our builds. Grandsons hope next season I can add the 66 wagon to our cruisin fleet.
Welcome to the Nuthouse. You're going to fit in just fine around here. That wagon looks terrific! I, for one, will certainly be following the build. Have fun with the old cars. It is terrific you are getting the grand kids involved in the old car hobby. They are, after all, the future, and it will be in their hands to preserve these old cars.
