Well, it's finally almost finished. Just have the name plaque to engrave. The color turned out really nice without any stain. I used a product called Bartley's Gel Varnish. It darkens the wood slightly like an old hand rubbed oil finish and really brings out the details in the wood. Heading to New Orleans Sat. morn to deliver it. The baby has turned and getting ready to come out. The Doc says it weighs in a 8 lbs.
Crap, I just looked at the weather. 100% chance of rain on Sunday, high 41, low 16. Looks like we'll be driving back in a storm and I hope there's no ice involved.
They're not angels, they're cherubs. Don't know the difference.....cherubs must be baby angels. Yes, I hand carved them from hard maple and inlayed them into the walnut. I did the first one from applewood but it had some punky areas and wouldn't carve cleanly, so I trashed it. They took me almost a week each. Chisels, gouges and scrapers, no power tools.
You did a great job on the cradle. I sure can't work with wood. When in school the teacher had to sharpen my pencils! Weather---- Here near the Suwannee River and Gulf we've had rain since Tuesday evening. Right now raining hard. I didn't know that angels have babies! What do they call a baby devil?
What a stunning piece of Cabinet Making! That is really beautiful, and will certainly be an heirloom for the ages. Be sure to sign and date the bottom.
Beautiful! Maybe you can restore our woodys with real wood. Wonder if anyone has ever put real wood on in place of vinyl on late model wagons. Hmmm... mike
