Hi all, the left windsheild wiper arm on my 76 Country Squire is loose. I triled to open the metal cap that I would assume covers the bolt, which again I'm assuming needs to be tightened.

I've done this many times on my 240 Volvo wagon, the cap pops open and the bolt is clearly visiable to adjust the wiper arm as needed.

On the CS, the cap is metal and would not budge. There looked like a small silver pin below the cap, which I was able to remove but the cover over the bolt would not budge.

I'm sure this is a simple fix and I feel foolish not being able to fix such a minor issue.

However, it seems more complicated than the 240 Volvo.

There IS NOT BOLT! Lift the arm, and slide that little tab out. Lift the arm off the stud. It is that simple!

How do you tighten the wiper arm?

If it's a splined shaft then it then perhaps the arm is stripped.
It's a lot softer metal than the shaft on the motor.
Replacing the arm is probably what is required.

    Define loose!!

See above!! How do you know that the wiper linkage doesn't have a bad bushing or wear.

I forgot. That car has the articulated arm, so there is the second rod that twists the blade in relation to the arm. That also needs to be removed from the stud, but I don't remember how it comes off. It may just life.

I really don't know, most of my experience is with Volvo 240's and with them there is a nut under a cap that you tighten to adjust the wiper arm.
