Well, it has been here for a few weeks, but it needed some primping and polishing and brake lines. The lines running to the non-functional ABS unit were rotted through, so I needed to fix the lines. Since the ABS hasn't worked since 1998, I removed the ABS unit and converted the car to purely conventional brakes. A little history about the car: I am the 2nd owner. This car was my parent's car. They got it my senior year of High School back in Spring of 1992. It is a TBI 5.0L car with heavy duty suspension. I have been it's mechanic since 1992, except for the past few years, when I moved to southern DE, and my parents didn't want to "bother me" to drive 100 miles to their house to work on it. Unfortunately their mechanic was not as "thorough" as I am, and did a few "hack" repairs (which I have corrected). It still needs valve cover gaskets and a left rear window regulator. It has 92,000 miles on it. Lastly, I am not a fan of wire wheel covers on this bodystyle. i love them on the square body cars, but not on the aero body cars, so it will eventually get the 15x7 alloy wheels that the Caprice used or a set of 15x8 truck rally wheels with chrome trim rings and centers. eventually it will be getting a GM 6.5L fuel miser diesel swap. I am not in any rush because it runs great, but in another year or two, after I amass all the parts I will need, I will do the conversion. My Suburban with a 6.2L does about 27 MPG highway, so getting this car over 30 MPG should be no issue. I am so spoiled by it already I could never go back to the 2003 Camry (A.K.A. the "penalty box"). I love this car!
Good luck on your project. During that lenghty discusion I still have no idea what kind of a wagon you have, the year, body type, etc ! I'd guess it's a GM.
OK, I am baffled. I posted a picture on the first message in this thread. It appeared in both the preview mode and the posted message. Now the picture is nowhere to be found. What is up with that? I will try to re-upload the photo of the car.
Let's see if this works now. Here she is posing for the camera: Here she is posing with our other "wagon", my 1993 Suburban with a 6.2L diesel that does 27 MPG highway (and is a hint of things to come): And here she is with her old stablemate, my 1996 F-150 which she shared the driveway with a lot many years ago. They are now re-united at long last.
