I have a bench seat in my 87 Buick Estate Wagon. Its in great condition but leans back just a little too much. Is there any way to adjust it?

    Thanks
    Bob

Are we dealing with a manual seat here - not a power bench seat?

Assuming that's the case, you could try putting some spacer blocks under the rear brackets, effectively raising the rear of the seat. This would also have the effect of making the seat back more upright. Unknown whether it would be enough though.

Another option might be to swap out the entire seat for something else - go to your local Pick-A-Part and find a nice power split bench setup, or a couple of bucket seats. Take some measurements of where you have the mounting areas on your floor pan, so you'll know whether a particular seat will fit or not. You can get a fabrication shop to make up some adapter brackets if necessary.

Is it possible it's one of those reclining seat backs, with a control you haven't found? I'm guessing it is a manual seat.

    Spit seat

It's a spit bench seat. Driver side is power, the passenger side is not. It's the passenger side I'd like to adjust. I am seriously considering getting buckets, but only if
I can get seats that my upholsterer can take the existing fabric from the front seats and use that to recover the buckets so they will match the rest of the interior. I hope to keep it looking like it was factory.

I have been considering getting a foam wedge to hang over the seat back and covering it to match the upholstery. My power seats will get pretty close by raising the rear but that makes it harder to bend my head down enough to get in. This approach might get the job done for very little investment.

Some seat backs have an adjustable stop also. I have added spacers on some cars when the seat back will not lean forward enough.

The LeSabre had the option of a reclining passenger seat, as well as a power passenger seat. You may find one out there somewhere. As a matter of fact, ANY of the 77 through 91 G.M. B and C bodies will fit in just fine, as they are all essentially the same car. From 77 through 81, there was a bucket/console package available on the Pontiac Bonneville 2 door and on the Oldsmobile Delta 88 2 door. On the Oldsmobile, it was called the "Holiday 88", and also came with the sport suspension. The bucket seat package from any of the 73 through 77 A bodies will also fit.

My passenger seat is manual, with a manual recliner. Maybe the one in your car is too, with the lever missing? Or, maybe there is a way to adjust the back by undoing the bolts holding it on, having someone in the back seat pushing forward while you re tighten the bolts. Just a thought.

    Yep, what he said.
It may look a lot like the adjustable feet on the bottom of your stove or refrigerator.
Between the seatback and seat base at the rear.
Otherwise, you could add washers between the seat track and floor on the rear mounting bolts/ studs.
I hope your seat isn't reclining too much because of RUST.
